Still go ammo hunting all the time. Most times I come up empty. I'm now purchasing ammo from private sellers as many people are just getting out of the gun ownership. And that is a sad state of affairs.....

Over the last few months, we've picked up a S&W 38 wheelhouse, S&W 9mm Shield, Beretta 84 .380 PLUS have a second HP 995TS due in next month. All fine guns, but getting all different ammo is challenging.

At the very least, we will always have at least two guns loaded and ready for either home defense or concealed carry.

New to site. Looking for 1st handgun and would like some feedback. Every place I stop says "no 9mm ammo". I'd like to stay local, and gun store just got in a HP 9mm last week. All other HP's are on back order and he doesn't know when they will arrive. I'd like a JHP-45 but don't want to wait 2 months. Is it worth it to buy 9mm now with no ammo, or should I wait for the 45 that's on order?

All ammo is varying on it's availability right now. There are no "for sures", though there has to come as end to this hoarding madness soon.

C9 is a nice pistol. I have one with about 2500-2800 rounds through it now. I added the Mahan sight (fits all HP pistols) to mine. Other that that, mines
stock and working well. Get the one you want and just pick up ammo as you find it.

Welcome to the site TunedSteel. Great question. But it really comes down to what you are comfortable with. I myself wanted to "standardize" on one main caliber. So I got the HP 995TS and my main CCW is a S&W Shield 9mm. My wife, loves the HP 995TS also, but as a carry piece, she choose a S&W Bodyguard 38 special snub wheelhouse. I also just recently acquired a 1987 Beretta 84BB .380 that was never fired and sat in storage for over 25 years. Kinda a time capsule gun with two 13 round mags. Very rare hi capacity magazine here in the nanny a$$ state of Massachusetts.

I guess I will shoot whatever gun/caliber I can find to keep practicing.

All that being said, I'm having a bear of a time finding any ammo. I do grab any 9mm, .38 and .380 I can find. I also have friends that shoot .40 and .45, so if I see any of those, I purchase for them also. They are ALL hard to find.

So, basically, you are should buy the gun in the caliber that YOU TRULY WANT as the ammo shortage will be in whatever caliber you choose.
