So, I've had my 4th knee surgery now courtesy of the VA. Surgery was on Friday, so I'm home recuperating on Saturday. Knowing that I'll be off work till November, I decided I needed a project since I was already bored.

Cruising Facebook, saw a guy with an older looking 995 for sale/trade. I offered him a Keltec PF9 with 3 mags/fobus paddle holster. I threw in 2 boxes of 9mm reloads for him to bring it to me within the hour 8p.m. He jumped at it. I should have known then that he wanted to get rid of it for a reason, but I've been wanting one of these for years.

He delivered it. Looked in fair shape. Old style stock. Very very very dirty.

Next day, I woke up, took a pain pill, managed to put things in reach and field stripped it. I've never done this before on a 995 and only saw videos on it. People said it was a PITA. It was easy... even on pain meds.

That thing was very very very very dirty. I'm surprised the bolt would even function. I took note of things I needed and decided to call Customer Service to turn it into a like new rifle. So, on Monday, I called them.

They answered, we spoke, and they said they'd send me a sling, swivels, rear sight, rear sight pin, new firing pin with new springs (had the older style), and new stock (had a crack in it). They even dated it as being born in 1996 or 1998 (can't remember... was still dopey), said it was a 995b (whatever that is, and walked me through an inspection of everything. They said it'd be there in about a week.

It arrived on Wednesday. Freaking Wednesday! How awesome is that.

Everything was cleaned, put together, and function check performed without problem (the slide is tight, but that is probably due to new springs).

So, I wrote them an email thanking them.

About 30 minutes later, they called me! Was happy to get my email, chatted with me a bit, thanked me for being a customer, and wished me good luck with the purchase.

How awesome is that!

I have heard that when you call them you may well talk to the owner or his wife, its a family run company and all in all they are great people and amongst the best customer service out there .

The lady that returned my call was able to track down who I spoke with on the phone. Said it was her brother. Sounds like a great place to work.

Makes you wonder though... are they members of this forum?

yeah, it'll be tight for about 30 rounds or so, did a "rebuild" on a friend's 995
Planet of the Apes carbine and he was griping about it, I took it out and ran four mags full through it and handed it to him, he was good to go then! Take a few rounds to set the springs is all.

Sweet. Gonna be a few weeks before I can even think about range time... but I'll be ready. I've got enough reloading supplies for me to load about 5k 9mm bullets :)

It seems that Hi Point guns have gotten a bad rap for some reason. I recently purchaced my first Hi Point, a 995TS, and I am absolutely in love with it. Also, I see reports of their excellent customer service quite often, which to me is VERY important. If the company keeps it up, they will overcome all the "bad press".
I'm so impressed, that I plan on buying one of their handguns. Just don't know much about them yet. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Donnie D

I guess I'm one of the many that has never needed customer service from them but It's nice to know it's there. wgaynor, I'm surprised they didn't send a new mag along with everything else, that is normally their M O.

Donnie, you basically have two choices of size, and 4 different calibers. I've got ham hands and the c9 fits nice in them (I'm an ambidextrous handgun shooter). That's the small frame (9mm & .380) and then the .40 & .45 are the large frames. They fit to but are chunkier to hold. I've only shot the c9 and .45 so far and pushing harder the .45 is easy to shoot. The 9 is a little snappy. Of course, YMMV.

I believe we have a Hi Point employee as a member here?
For some reason, I'm thinking "Makeminea4595TS" works there?
And if memory servers, I think Shirley joined up once for a while
They are a really good company, and their customer service is second to none.

HP customer service is like no-one else's! Almost hard to believe in this day and age it could be so good!!! One call to MOM and you can't help but be convinced.

Another testimonial ... While cleaning my 995TS for the first time after about 1000 rounds, I lost the sear pin. It sprung out of my hands and entered an alternate dimension as it is no longer in my garage. I covered every inch of the garage floor on my hands and knees and couldn't find it, so I called Hi-Point and they said they couldn't sell me a sear pin as they must be individually fitted to each gun. They said to send the gun in for repair. The service would be free and they would give me a magazine to cover my shipping cost. This whole doing is strictly my fault and yet Hi-Point is going to pay for everything. Now that's a great company! Wish they had more products I could buy.
