Hello All.
It has been a while since my last visit. I have over 3500 rds. thru my C9 in this past year and have grown to trust and like this gun like a faithful friend.
That being said...I am thinking of buying a spare slide and shaving it a bit. Not radically. Just wondering if anyone else has done something similiar? Results??
Happy New Year to you All.
Doran

Welcome back :)
By shaving the slide, I assume you mean shave some weight off it?
I have a couple concerns about that, the first being it would most likely void the warranty.
The other being that since the C9 is a blowback design, the mass and weight of the slide are necessary evils of proper function. It could actually be dangerous, and it would darn sure increase recoil and could damage the pistol.
Anyway, that's my opinion, take it for what it's worth
Good to see you posting again.

In a blowback design, weight and spring are a delicate balance. What formula would you use to calculate the recoil spring change?
These are real world issues you will encounter with said slide lightening. It can be done. it has been done. You may find this vid of interest if you haven't already seen it.
Bear in mind, the shop doing this work has trained gunsmiths and/or engineers planning this out. Are you either? Not trying to dump on your idea but it could have catasrophic
or even fatal consequences.
Now to the vid. Remember, this isn't a hack job, but an engineering success.

That's a good Hipoint but the price tag has something to be desired.

Yep, REAL pricey and not at all practical to do with a HiPoint. I posted the video just as an example of what it can be
and that it's more than just removing a bit of metal. Many things go into the mix that weren’t even touched on in the video.
Sure, it can be done. But you better be willing and ready to do a LOT of trial and error experimenting. I think springs would be the biggest
consideration, and it's not something I would attempt even if I had a box-o-springs to test and swap.

Hi Doran, good of you to drop in. Like the others said, it all depends on how radical you want to get. Some small cuts for looks or something would likely be ok. Major mods like a skeleton slide would not be ok.

Happy new years to you too!

One of the attributes that makes it a trusted friend is its mass. It counters the forces as well or better than guns costing way more. And with the 40 and 45 calibers you get even more compensation. These guns aren't heavy bricks by accident. If you want light, buy a Sccy. Those snappy little bastards are a great conceal size and alot of guys here love em. It won't be as accurate, durable or fun to shoot. They aren't very expensive and shoot the same ammo as your C9....And look cool. (Just my opinion BarnOwl). The price of a Sccy isn't anywhere near the cost of an emergency room visit.

Howdy notagame, I guess I'm with the these other fellas. There are actually some things the factory knows best about, this could possibly be one of those things. Sadly, the polymer and sorta metal used in the making of these pistolas is not of the highest caliber meaning every gram of weight was likely left where it is for a reason. :dunno: Try it with the understanding that you might be playing with the possible eventuality of being able to NOT have to choose which finger to use to pick your nose (the choice could be severely limited). That is also determined by the eventual placement of said nose...depending on how you use the sights on the gun that is...
