Post subject: Anyone have proof of a Hi-Point "exploding?"
PostPosted: Wed Dec 10, 2008 8:21 pm
I've been reading around several forums and people often say they've had Hi-Points "explode" or the slide fly off of them. Every time I ask for pictures or video proof they come up short. I'm an owner of a Hi-Point and would love to see proof of one of these guns having a critical failure.

Hi, my name is Broomhead and I am a Hi-Point addict.

Hello Broomhead.
Welcome to our support group.
There are five steps in our program.
Step 1: Buy ammo and send it down range.
Step 2: Buy more Hi-Points.
Step 3: Laugh at all the Gun Snobs for paying way too much, then out shoot them at the range.
Step 4: Happily spread your addiction to others whenever possible.
Step 5:Repeat steps 1 through 4 endlessly.
Unfortunately, these are not steps to recovery.
There is no recovery.

You won't find any. Just a bunch of gun snobs trying to justify their hatred for an inexpensive pistol that functions just as well as more expensive guns.

Agreed. While it isn't impossible for a Hi-Point to fail they are no where near as bad as SNOBS think they are. Curiously I can browse the very forums the SNOBS live in and find oodles of posts about various 1911, GLOCK, Taurus, and all sorts of other brands having problems of all sorts. Doesn't make those brands junk either but I can't comprehend how it is OK for a $500 gun to have a problem but not for a $150 one to have a problem. Smile and let it go knowing that the fewer the people that know about these means they will remain readily available and affordable.

The prospect of tyranny may not grab the headlines the way vivid stories of gun crime routinely do. But few saw the Third Reich coming until it was too late. The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed — where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once. ~Alex Kozinski (Ninth Circuit Judge)

I guess I'm pretty luck here in Northern Colorado. They have more of the HP pistols than you can shake a stick at. Now the carbines are another story.

If the circumstances were right, for instance a squib round in the barrel and the next shot goes off and overpressures the barrel, any weapon would suffer damage. I have never seen evidence of one simply exploding without any reason that I did not feel was prejudice to the brand.

Believe me, if there was credible evidence out there, I would want to hear about it and pass it along.

Round for round, you got just as much chance on an explosion from a $1000.00 dollar "gun" as a $200.00 dollar HP.
Barring that unfortunate situation, you got a 100% chance of reliability, 100% chance of lifetime rebuild/replacement, and 100% chance of being ridiculed for owning one.
Choice is yours, man up and prove them wrong, or cower and spend too much money.

Oof...
on the other hand I read a review somewhere online, they were using a .45 and a .40, put .40 ammo in the .45 by accident, had several ruptured cases and thought they had a crappy gun before they noticed what they had done, then realized, put in the right ammo, and had a very successful gun test after that. Good review, and happy magazine folks.
