I took a type 38 Japanese rifle down to Walthaman today and traded it to him for a 1891 Argentine he had that has some barrel problems. The 38 had the stock cut and was missing the mag follower and spring. :hmmm: I think the 91 will get rebarreled in 7.65 or maybe make a 257 Roberts out of it. :thinkin: :thinkin:

Buddy of mine has a couple of Arisaka's, but he's not much of one for finding out exactly what he has...I don't know squat about them either, guess I'll have to take some pics and start researching. He just drug another one home from his sister's house that has light rust all over it and missing the bolt and a few small parts, both of them still have the mum intact on them. I put a bore light in the rusted one and couldn't see a thing, thought it was rusted up but took a chunk of brass rod and dropped it through, it was all spider webs! Bore and rifling look real good, but I'll have to figure out what exactly it is before starting a search for a bolt for it.

The type 99 is a 7.7mm and the type 38 is a 6.5mm look at the bore size first the type 38 bore looks really small if you are used to 30 cal weapons.

Got my type 38 together, gonna try to get the nerve up to fire a full power round out of it tomorrow and see what happens

That thing is sweet looking.
I like the old reliable stuff just don't have the wealth of knowledge on it all yet. That and still working on getting the wife to let me buy more guns lol.

Norma makes it and I think PPU does also. I cheat, I trim and resize 30-06 brass and reload my own ;)

If you look on midways site they have a detailed history of the business, I read it a few weeks ago and if I recall correctly it had a part where they talked about that.
