1943 Izhevsk 91/30. Immaculate bore and bluing except for a dab of black paint on one side of the magazine.

Special buy from AIM, three 91/30 stocks for $49 plus shipping, got two post-war and one wartime, one of the post-war is for a stepped receiver. All from Izhevsk arsenal.

actually, I am looking into it. go to looking at AIM, realized all the fun toys and nice prices, so now it looks like I may end up giving the GOV a little more $$ to feed my habit. My wife is going to ban me from this site one of these days...

Jeez, you'll break even on the money for the C&R with one purchase between getting dealer pricing and not paying whatever the rate is there for transfers. But it also opens you up to a whole bunch more "deals" that will get you to searching for change in the couch cushions for the next purchase. Steyr rifles for $99 at J&G, Mosin 91/30s at AIM right now will run right at 143 SHIPPED to your door...lol!

yeah, I believe the "shipped right to your door" part is definitely what seals the deal for me...

The biggest problem I have with it is that there are only so many common guns available. All the others are somewhat unusual calibers. Like the 9x18. Some convert like a few of the nato rounds (.308) but others will not. Even before the glut some of the ammo was more costly than the guns that shot it.

CZ50 shoots .32ACP and will run you right around $200 in good shape from Century. J&G has Steyr's for $99.00, you'll probably have to buy ammo online as your LGS will mark it up even more than it is already, a bit expensive to shoot but then you only paid $100 for the thing... then of course there's the Mosin's, still surplus ammo available as well as aftermarket. Those are the "cheap" ones, but you'll occasionally run across one of the more expensive ones in a pawn shop and be able to get a deal, just hand him the copy of your license that you carry in your wallet and walk out with it...

Surplus ammo isn't a problem if you'll plan ahead and buy in case lots. The last 9x18 I bought was $200/1000; that's $10/50 - about the same as 9x19 and cheaper than .380.

The cheap 7.62x25 is gone but commercial ammo is under $20/50 if you buy in lots of 500 or 1000. 7.62x38r is about the same price and .32acp tends to run about $13-$15 per 50 in bulk.

Even today 7.62x54r is cheap at 440/~$90 to $100 -- you can't shoot any other centerfire that cheap.

The other calibers are all over the place and some are very expensive so be sure to check ammo prices before you buy the firearms.

Of course all the prices quoted are pre-BS and until things calm down YMMV.

Kinda sorta what I meant, the ammo is available online only in a lot of cases. While this doesn't bother most folks it can have an impact. I have always bought Noviskabirsk (sp) ammo but it has become gone kaput as has most all ammo that's not .45 or .40 caliber handgun or .308 rifle. Of course area may have a lot to do with it and for online buying, perseverance and daily checks may get you a lucky find. :dunno:

The supply of ammo is still there, it's just the gougers and panicked idiots that are the problem.
