I buy these from a guy who bought crates of them years ago with the intention of selling parts. He throws everything I need to put a complete rifle together into a box and ships it to me for $120. He rummages through and finds me a "good one" every time, the finish and bore on these are immaculate. This is what arrived yesterday...

Well, they're not "collectible" as none of the numbers match but I actually work to get as many parts as possible correct as far as the same arsenal and in most cases the right stock. This one is wrong as its in a postwar stock instead of prewar but I don't have any on hand at the moment. Most of your refurbs actually end up with a mix of arsenals in them if you look close, my "matching numbers" 42 Tula actually has one barrel band and the bolt head from Izhevsk.

I agree, the vast majority of numbers matching MN rifles are forced matched by the refurb factories. Some are obvious with electro pencil and crossed out and restamped numbers, some they removed the old numbers and stamped new matching numbers on the parts.

Most of the bolts I get from him have had the numbers scrubbed off, if I wanted to be shady I could hunt down metal stamps the same size as the serial numbers on the barrel and stamp the bolts but I ain't like that.

I may be drawing to a close on these... my shooting buddy finally admitted today that he's never going to be able to do anything with the 1968 Mustang that he has sitting in the woods at his place, but he doesn't think it's worth much of anything as it needs so much work. So we traipsed down through the brush to where it sits and I gave it a looking over. Usual floor pans gone on the drivers side, needs a new hood, lower rear on the right front fender has "bubble" rust popping up but fenders are cheap for these Stangs. Engine may or may not be free, it only had 200 miles on it when he parked it but he needed the carb for something else and now it has a wild critter nest on top of the engine... if whatever it was built the nest there before enough moisture got down inside to freeze up the motor, that would be a good thing but I'll count it as needing a new motor or this one overhauled again. Looking through Craigslist and other ads it looks like I'll have to sink about $2000 into it, doing all the work myself, but the wife has always wanted an early Mustang.

I had a 66 notchback and a 67 fastback Mustang. Great cars, lots of good memories about them.

Drove home a 1985 Silverado 4x4 tonight, another money pit but I needed a truck.
