Kewl Stuff, anyway!
I saw the hydraulic de-primer method, and one guy made a copper tubing "sleeve" to use boxers in the berdan opening.
Anxious to see how many reloads you get on the steel cases! BTW, my Tula .223 has a bigger primer than the brass .223 :scared:

Both are small rifle primers

lol, there's not much more to it other than what I already posted, there's a LOT of folks out there that reload the steel cases, even the Berdan primed. They fill the case with water then use a dowel the same diameter as the mouth of the case, use a block with a hole in it large enough for the primer to "shoot" into and smack the dowel with a hammer, the hydraulic pressure deprimes the case. You can buy Berdan primers but that's just too much work for me to mess with as most of your x54r steel cased stuff will split the neck, often on the first firing.

That's a GREAT saner Mo!!! No one could ask for better!

...the only thing might be that carbide dies are needed, from what I have seen...

Not available for the .223 other than the expander ball, and most people already have carbide pistol dies. Given the long life that pistol brass has and the affordability of it, there's no real reason to try and reload 9mm Luger steel cases, the only reason I tried with the steel .223 was that brass ammo was very scarce and I had read postings on the web about how it could be done and wanted to verify it for myself.

So it's a big 2 Thumbs Up? Reloading steel .223?

Well, I have 20 rounds that I've reloaded five times with 55gr Hornady FMJ-BT W/C, 25.5grs of IMR 8208XBR that pushes it right at 2980FPS. None display any indication of case separation, none have cracked at the neck, none have rusted. ( I do about a half hour tumble in cob with a bit of Nufinish added which could be why the finish still looks good as new) so I'd have no problems stocking up with a bunch with the idea that if I needed to shoot somewhere that I wouldn't be able to recover my brass, but wanted the improved accuracy that my handloads give, I'd certainly grab a magazine of the steel reloads.

I understand loading to what the weapon likes, but do you think you could push it a little faster, safely, with the steel case?
Factory loads typically get well over 3,000 FPS or at least claim to... :minigun:

I'm shooting out of 16" barreled AR's, specs for 25.3grs of 8208XBR show 3268 FPS out of a 20" barrel. I am sure that I could go hotter since all mine are chambered in 5.56 and I'm showing no pressure signs on the brass or primer, but in reality it's a very accurate load for both the 55gr FMJ as well as the SP in the same weight and the velocity gains were dropping off at that point as well. I don't push for velocity anyway, I figure my percentage drop with the shorter barrel was pretty much in keeping with Hodgdon's specs.

Gotcha.
The 16" carbine barrel strikes again :doublegun2:

I need a good 20" barrel for my primary AR.
#2 is great with a 16, CQB and whatnot...
