I wonder if the longer barrel gives the .380 a little more velocity, bringing it closer to a low powered 9mm luger round?

I'm not sure there is enough powder in a stock .380 load to take advantage of the longer barrel. You could roll your own and use a tiny bit slower powder... that would help. Haven't looked at any recipes for
this so it's just speculation at this point.

It has 380ACP stamped on the side of the chamber. Very accurate also.

Makemine, is there any significant increase in velocity the carbine has over the pistol that you are aware of (.380)?

Here is a website everyone should have marked for quick reference. It gives ballistics for most handgun rounds out of barrels from 2" through 20".

http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/380auto.html

Your carbine is going to top pistol velocities in the .380 by only 200fps.

Hardly worth the effort for all the added weight and bulk.

You are definitely NOT turning a pistol round into rifle fodder. Better to move to the 9mm or even to move to a real rifle caliber carbine.

Sounds like Makemine is happy with his. I'm still on the fence. A 995 in Woodland Camo would be a cool addition but I'm drawn to the 380 like a moth to a flame. I bought 3 "classics" in the early 2000s so my boys and I would have interchangeable parts should the wheels come off the republic. When ever I'm plinking, I pull one out and the Bushmaster stays in the lockup. Go figure. Probably has to do with the difference in cost of ammo. I'm thinking the tactical stock on the 380 would feel more like the gas operated recoil of the AR.

A new thought about the purposefulness of a 380 carbine. I remember being told by an army surplus FFL that the reason the Russians developed the AK shotgun (Saiga) platform was to help prevent over penetration in close quarters. It seems that shooting a perpetrator in an apartment complex with a 7.62x39 would often result in shooting innocent bystanders located in other apartments. If this were true, a 380 carbine might be a good choice for home defense. Eventually I'll talk myself into buying one. I have a safe chock full of previous good ideas.

I've noticed that the prices for 380 continue to come down. At $12/ 50rnds shooting my 380s doesn't hurt the wallet as much as it use to. While shopping I saw 380 LRN for not much more and I got to thinking how the carbine might be suitable for small game.I know my 10/22 is probably a better choice but I really enjoy my 995. Hummm.,.

380 has come back down to reasonable prices finally. Its nice that a person can afford to shoot it again.

I have only toyed around with the .3895, I haven't bought one as of yet.
