I've taken my 4595 out to the range twice now and have run around 400-500 rounds through it.

When I'm done, I throw my brass in this thing:

Image

And let it do it's thing and clean that brass for me.

I wish I had one of those perforated plastic brass cages where you throw your brass in there
and crank a handle and it helps get all the corn-cob media out of the cleaned brass.
I've got a hub-cap looking thing with slots in the bottom I can set on an ice-cream pail and dump the whole works into...
But it really doesn't work that good and usually makes a mess...
I'll use it outside on the deck when the weather is nice - The weather is NOT nice right now!! -3° and a wind chill advisory...

So I've been using a "spaghetti grabber" thing I stole out of the ol' lady's kitchen...
It was Mo who told us about that idea - Thanks Mo!! It works pretty damn good!! :great:

Anyway, what I want to show you guys is what my 4595 is doing to my brass.
It seems to be putting a "flat spot" on the mouth of the case:

A little closer here:

See what it's doing there? It almost looks like theres a slight "dimple" or dent in the middle of the flat spot.

This one got whacked the worst:

Fairly Nice On It!!!

What the heck is doing that to my brass??
My JHP Doesn't do that - just the 4595.

:thinkin: Any ideas?? :hmmm:

Maybe someone can cut you a tapered go gauge to straighten them out. It would be a shame to scrap em. I don't reload so I don't know if there's a tool already out there. If there isn't, there should be.

Aside from the really bad one just size them and flare them. Load a little hotter next time, looks like it may be short cycling a little.

My AK does that, my new AR does that, it is the extractor holds onto the case for a split second too long and the case rotates around and hits the rear of the opening with the open mouth. My milsurp ammo does it. I have already got a torn up case deflector on my AR to prove this is the cause, at least for it.

My 9mm gets bent like that too.. just run the sizer and flare as normal. :dunno:

My Glock 23 does this, as doew my Haskell JS-45. Funny thing about the Haskell, it ate thousands of rounds without doing it, went back to Hi-Point for a transplant, and has done it ever since. :dunno:

I think you're right on there Randy...
I had to read it twice as I'm not too bright!!

That brass comes outta there at light speed and the open mouth whacks something and puts a flat spot on it.
I would imagine a larger diameter round would be more likely to do that too...

Jason I'm not gonna say the dent is good for the brass, but as long as its a dent and not a crease, I wouldn't worry about it too much.... size it and reload it.

Happy shooting Dave Gillespie - (Sharp Shooter), you will be missed and remembered.

We are better off from having known you Dean Stephens -(ampersand) It wont be the same around here without you.

That's just what I'll do Walt.
I really was curious about what was causing it - Now I know!!
