I had a fellow drop off some guns he wanted me to sell:

A S&W Hand Ejector in 38 S&W
A P08 Luger 9mm Pistol with 2 mags
A Colt Officers Model Revolver Heavy Barrel in .38 cal.
A Winchester Model 97 Pump 12 gauge shotgun with 2 barrels

And I had another fellow drop off a rifle:
A Remingtion Model 7400 semi-auto in .270 with 2 mags

I have a few questions I hope you can answer - Plus about what you think each is worth.
And basically what I should ask for them - that's what I hope you fellers can help me with anyway... :D

We'll start with:

S&W Hand Ejector in 38 S&W - This baby has some markings on the barrel and I'm not sure what they are.

Image
Picture of the gun

Image
The markings on the barrel
The stamps say:
NP
.38 .767
3.5 TONS
And there are 2 other "shapes" in the upper left...
One may be the original proof mark?? :dunno:
If any of you know what those markings mean, I would be Very Grateful if you would tell me!!

When I try to sell it, I'm not sure what cartridge I should say it is.
It says "38 S&W CTG" which I know means 38 S&W Cartridge - which is different than the 38 Special.
I wondered if someone bored the cylinder deeper to accept 38 special cartridges - so I measured it.

And I measured it again - just now with my caliper - And I discovered it has 2 "ridges" in the cylinder!!
Have a look:

Image

Someone has definitely done something to that cylinder... It's a "Numbers Matching" cylinder too.
The 1st "Ridge" measured .736
The 2nd "Ridge" measured about 1.152...
That's about exactly what it should be for 38 Special... :thinkin:

Wait - Damn it!! I just remembered I have some 38 Special ammo here!!
It's some ammo my Dad used back when he was Sheriff...

Image

And sure as 5hit flies - It fits this revolver:
Image

Image

So I can tell them it shoots 38 Special.

So - My questions have changed a bit for this revolver...
I'd still like to know what all those stamping marks on the barrel mean,
And I am positive it shoots 38 Special - BUT:
Will it still shoot 38 S&W too??

And what do you think this revolver is worth?
To some - shooting 38 Special would be great!!
To the "keep em' like S&W made them" folks - they'd probably not like it to shoot 38 Special.

The guy said to ask for $350 for it, but he'd take $300 for it.
Does that sound fair??

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P08 Luger 9mm Pistol - A few pictures below:

Image

Image

Image

Image

It has "Made in Germany" stamped on the back of it too.

My questions for this one:

Is this called a Luger Model P08?? This is the 1st one of these I've ever touched!! I don't know jack about them... )-:

Did you notice it has a safety on the back-strap??
And the grips sure feel like they're made out of plastic.

When do you think it was made?
What do you think it's worth?
The guy said I should start by asking $900 for it - but he'd take $800.
Is that with in reason??

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Colt Officers Model Revolver Heavy Barrel in .38 cal.

Here's a picture:

Image

What I thought was unique about this one was the adjustable rear sight:

Image

Looking at these on the net, It looks like only the target models got the adjustable rear sight.
So is this a "Target Model" or do all Officers Model revolvers have this rear sight?
He says to ask $600 and he'd take $500 - I think that's a bit high - I'm thinking more like $400
What do you fellers think it's worth?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Winchester Model 97 Pump 12 gauge shotgun with 2 barrels:
This shotgun still works fine (according to him) - But has had the hell used out of it!!
The bluing on all the edges is gone and where the pump action works too.
And the stock is beat up a bit.

Image

He says to ask for $650 with the extra barrel.
But he'd like at least $550 but he'd take $500
Good asking price?? Or no??

-------------------------------------------------------------

Last, but not least:
Remingtion Model 7400 semi-auto in .270 with 2 mags

I didn't take a picture - we all know what the Remington semi-auto rifle looks - I hope!!

It's in fair to good condition - About the worst thing wrong with it is the stock is awfully beat up.
And - It had a scope on it that I took off (at the owners request) and someone removed the rear sight "leaf".
But - It still has the scope mount on it.

I'm guessing this one is worth about $350 - $400...
The owner said "Get what you can out of it."

And Thanks For Your Help!! :great:
You haven't failed me yet!! :D

On that .38, I'd see if a 38 special would drop in.
If I remember right, a 38 S&W is about the size of a 9mm but with a rim.
If it's bored for a .38 S&W, a .38 special won't fit right

Jason a 38 special will shoot 38 special and 38 S&W which is a shorter weaker round... similar to a 357 mag will shoot 38 special too.

Those are British proof marks on the barrel, means the gun was imported from England at one time or the other. Possibly a lend lease pistol from ww2 that was imported back into the states.

I think it is a S&W Military and Police model 10

The luger is a commercial model made for the US market, not sure when it was made either between WW1 and WW2 or post WW2. I would guess post WW2. Not sure of the value, but usually any military luger in good condition will bring 900 or more. That may be worth more since there were less of them made.. I'm honestly not sure.

The 7400 in my area would be worth about 325 in the condition you describe.

That luger is sure a beautiful pistol isn't it?

That revolver was likely made in 38 S&W and someone honed it out to accept the more common/modern in the US 38 special. If so that will probably negatively affect its value as a collectible. Hard to say how much though...

That's too bad the messed with the cylinder on that S&W or I'd have you a buyer but I'll ask him anyway. I'll have to think about that 7400.

Would he sell that short 97 barrel separate?
I've got a 97 but I don't know too much about it.

I asked him that and he said he's like $300 for the shorter barrel - but he might take less.
That shotgun had the shorter barrel on it when he brought it and he swapped them right in front of me.
The longer barrel has the same serial number as the shotgun.

That 97 is one I've never fired
I guess I'll pass on that barrel but thanks for checking

That Colt officers 38, that thing is sure a nice looking piece of hardware. Reminds me of the "Department loaner" I carried when I was a rookie and was waiting for my Model 19 to come in, though that one had fixed sights. I've seen weapons simaler to that on Gander Mountains Used weapons site, and at $500.00. that's a little low.

Too bad I've spent my gun money for the year. I'd make an offer on it.

Well rmuniz - He is a little "hard up" for some cash right now!!
He wouldn't be selling all these guns if he wasn't...

So he is pretty open to offers.
