The 2nd one showed up, so I put it in the original post.

Nope, it belongs to the owner of the company I work for.
And Thank You for the link Walt!! That's exactly what it is!!
I forwarded it to my boss - He wasn't exactly sure what it was either!!

He asked me to clean 3 shotguns for him, which I did this weekend, and when he picked them up today,
he brought 3 more rifles and 3 more pistols for me to clean!!

Plus, one of the salesman that works there heard about it, and he brought a another rifle for me to clean...

Geez - those 3 shotguns - A Mossberg 500A, an Rem. 870 and an old 870 "Wingmaster" took me about 2 hours each to clean.
I took my time - I don't know much about shotguns - I had to look it up on the net to see how they came apart.

At least rifles and pistols are easier to clean than shotguns!!
I hope the word doesn't "get out" about me cleaning guns... I don't mind it!!
But 10 of them in less than a week is a bit too much!!

That's kind of a neat old piece despite it's reputation. Too bad it's rated so poorly.

Jason, if you can make it worth the drive I'll come and clean guns for ya. It'd make a nice break in the monotonous stuff I get to do on my weekends off.

Agreed... I would love to have one in my collection... I have several Japanese rifles but none of their pistols.

I gave the guy his rifle and told him $20 for cleaning it...
Surely that is too much money to clean a freakin' gun!!

So what does he say??

"I'll bring you another one next week."

Damn it!!

I'm just going to start telling people no.

The way I am... It's at it takes me at least and hour... Sometimes 2+ hours to clean a rifle and shotguns even more.
And you guys are asking yourselves, "How the f*ck can anybody spend 2 hours to clean a gun???

The last rifle I cleaned was a 22-250 Remington 700 with a nice wood stock - and it was filthy!!
I took the wood stock off and under-side of the rifle had a little corrosion and the trigger mechanism
looked like a giant ball of fuzz...

I ended up using most of a can of cleaner and 1/2 a roll of paper towels soaked with a little Hoppe's
carefully wiping all the crap and corrosion off.

Then a soft bush is used to get in all the little nooks and crannies I couldn't get to with my "pokey tool" and a
Southern Bloomers cleaning patch. Then, a little drop of oil goes everywhere I can see anything touching or rubbing.

Even the the scope - "a Bausch & Lomb scope... WTF?" and the rings and mounts had 20 years of dust and filth on them.
I don't know how the hell they could even see through the scope - It was seriously the worst I've ever seen!!
And both the front and rear lenses - so it wasn't something unnoticeable...
Every time you looked through it, It was obviously filthy!!
I looked through it before I cleaned the scope and after - and what a difference!!
I made sure all the ring screws are nice and tight too.

A chamber brush was used to scrub the shit out of the chamber and a Hoppe's soaked "spiral" brush up and down
the bore a few times to loosen the crap it it...

Then the "EX_ISP" recommended Jag comes out and we have a spotless chamber and bore. :great:

I didn't take the bolt apart - but I scrubbed the piss out of it until I happy with it.
Then I lube it and work it before I put it back in the rifle.

Then a drop of oil is applied everywhere else I think it's needed.
I ordered 2 of these:

Image

I put Break-Free CLP in one and some heavy 80w-90w oil in the other.
I can put a little drop of oil exactly where I want to with these - and I love that!! (-:
The 80w-90w stuff I used on slides (like my JHP or little JA-25) and anywhere else
stuff rubs hard. The CLP is for the rest.

Then the stock is put back on and the bolt back in and work it several time and I dry fire it too.
The bolt was silky smooth and the trigger was noticeable better too!! :D

This is a trade secret of mine...
The last thing I do is this: Everywhere there is a place where the blueing wore through,
I get out my black "El-Marko" marker and make those shiny spots in the bluing look blue again.
Yes, I know it's a very temporary fix - but it looks nice when I hand the rifle back to them.

The last thing I do is wipe it all down with a rag lightly soaked in Hoppe's so it smells nice and it
has a little something on it to help it not rust. I do that underneath too - before I put the stock back on.

My basement and I stink like spray cleaner, oil and Hopppe's #9 and I check the time and 2 hours have passed by.
I probably used $10 worth of cleaner, Hoppe's, patches, paper towels and oil...

And I can't "half-ass" something like this - this is for people I work with - or work for when I clean guns
for the guy that owns the company I work for. He signs my paycheck!!

And I'm one of those "obsessive-compulsive" people when I do this shit...
If I see something I should clean better - I simply have to - or it'll bother
the hell out of me knowing I didn't do the bet job I could.

So I get a whopping $10 profit for doing something I hate doing...
And I'm going to have to order another $50 worth of cleaning stuff to replace what I originally started with. :(

And - I have 6 more guns my boss gave me to clean...
3 rifles = 6 hours of cleaning
3 pistols = 1-1/2 - 2 hours of cleaning
And the 3 shotguns I already cleaned for him = 6+ hours
That's 13 or 14 hours of cleaning guns for one guy!!
But with him - I'll ask for $100 for doing it, and he'll give me $200 :D

I give the company a 100% all day every day and he appreciates that.
The last time I got my yearly raise, he explained what they take out for insurance, 401K, etc.
and what the benefits we get are worth to us in $ per hour - Health Insurance alone is worth $5 an hour!!
The last thing is what the raise is.
When he was done, he said, "Are you sure that's enough??"
I said "Yes Sir!!" - I have a nice comfortable life because of this guy...
And I'll clean any damn thing he asks me too!! :yes2:

Anyway, in the last couple years, I bet I've cleaned 20 guns for other people already and I've about had it...
So, THAT'LL BE $50 PLEASE + EXPENSES or JUST SAY NO
will most likely be my new gun-cleaning policy...
Except for my Boss!!

Cut to the chase and get some cans of carb cleaner. It will clean the dirtiest gun spanking clean in a couple of minutes and then you simply swab the bore, lube it and send it out the door.

Its nice that you spend the loving attention that you do on their guns, but the gun nor the owner know the difference between a good quick thorough cleaning and a good thorough 2 hour cleaning.

Time is money my friend, especially if you are going to do this on a regular basis.
