There was this young fellow that works at the same place I do.
I told him, "If you ever get to feeling like you need to have kids, go buy
yourself something nice and that feeling should go away."

Well - He didn't listen!!

I recieve a text from him... "I have to sell this gun."
Why?? I ask.
"The kid got sick and I have some bills I can't put off any longer."
I see...
You shouldn't tell the buyer you're desperate to sell like that... Kind of a No-No!!

What kind if gun is it??
"It's a 9mm SA P226 Elite Sig Sauer - and I've only run 2 boxes of shells through it."

Hmmm - I'm thinking the Sig Sauer pistols are a little expensive for my tastes...
They have come out with an "el-cheapo"line of pistols - but they start with a "3" like "320" I think.

I (like an idiot) bought 2 of them when I first started in the gun business - NOT the cheap ones!!
A 1911 style 45 ACP "TacPac" and a 9mm of some sort - and lost my ass on both of them.
Well - I think I broke even on the 45... After I had it for around for 6+ months.

To get rid of the 9mm, I had to take a couple of guns in on trade for it...
And lost my ass on those instead.

Anyway - Here it is:

It has two 15 round mags and looks brand-new...
I paid him $475 for it.

I hope I can make up a little for the loss I took on the first two I had...

I did my taxes and lost about an even $2,500 in this "Highly Profitable" gun business last year.
My wife says I'm too kind and generous and think I have to make everybody happy...

I do feel a little guilty sticking it to a guy that has doctor bills for his little baby!!
"Ain't your fault he had kids." my sensitive wife says...
I guess nobody gave a f*ck about me when I was young and had kids...
Wasn't their fault I'm stupid...

Anyway - - Other than the moral dilemma...
Do you fellers think I done good here paying $475 for a P226 Sig??

Jason your my friend and I love ya to death.... that being said, if you want to make any money selling guns, maybe you should let your wife run the business and you contribute the expertise. Everyone has a sob story, and this is a cut throat industry.

I do this as a hobby so I don't really care if I make money or not as long as I get to pad my collection and have my friends come over and sit around and gossip.... big difference....

In fact, my poor little store is lower in stock than since when I first opened up.. I have been trading around and ended up with a nice 02 Chevy Avalanche Z71 pickup since my daughter in law seems to always need my van for kiddy dr appts.... Its mine and paid for, cost me a bunch of guns but no car payment LOL Now I have to start building up my inventory again. I think for me that's half the fun.

Yup...what Walt says ^^^^

It's OK to to feel sorry for folks, it's OK to feel guilty too, the trick is to make the poor sap you are raping love it. To that end don't forget to add all the cost-less gee gaws you can to the deal. That does not include YOUR time; at least not more than ten minutes worth. Root around on the webz and find some really cheap but useful things you can throw on top of a deal. Like cheap wiping cloth's, small bottles of lube that cost less than $1 your cost, things like that. Make a show of giving it to them just don't make it a production. Folks that get what they perceive to be free items, even if they are hard core conservatives  are more likely to find it hard to be AS upset or feel as they have been shorted. It's all psychology of the sale.
When you are assessing how much to buy a gun for from a seller that is different. As long as both parties are happy with the deal and the handshake has been finalized make sure to make clear there are NO do-overs. Make sure they/you are satisfied BEFORE you go your separate ways. If something is found defective later it should be dealt with as a new deal. However, remember, one foul word-of-mouth message from a credible human is worth more than a grand of other types of good advertising. It's a slippery slope but sometimes you just have to piss folks off if you are to break even. Despite what they say about the customer always being right...not these days of scumbags and lost religion. Maybe not in your neck of the woods...yet...but most everywhere else where the populations are higher.

Geez Walt- Randy, I don't know...
My wife goes to work 2+ hours early - everyday - for free!!
I don't think she's ever been paid for and hour of overtime in her life - But she'll go work 10 hours of overtime every single week for nothing.

Somebody will have me order a gun for them - she'll bitch about it until the guy comes and buys it - then it's OK... sort of.
She doesn't get to have any of the money - or more importantly, control of the money - so it's just a big PITA to her to spend 15 minutes every 4 months to help me figure sales tax...

I've asked her about the "2 hours for free everyday" thing with her job.
(for the record - she's not screwing somebody else. I just know that's what you perv's are thinking...)
I asked her why she doesn't get a freakin' "Real" job that pays overtime - instead of her current BS government job.

For instance - the place where I work has a job opening in the front office...

"Well honey - I LOVE my job!! I don't want another one. Plus I'm within $3 an hour of what you make!!"
Well I'm proud of you honey... She's only been there for - 17 maybe 18 years... and within $3 of what I make and zero benefits...

So I told her, "I completely understand sweetheart!! Every job I've ever had... I based everything on weather
I "Love My Job!!" or not, just like you get to do!! In fact - I just quit my job with all the health benefits, vacation
and retirement plan because I didn't love it. I'm trying to decide between being an "International Playboy" or being an Astronaut.
I might want to be a Cowboy or open a Wilderness Store too."

So my wife is a "take zero chances" person and immediately and permanently latches on to what's easiest and the most stable...
Hey - That sounds like me!! Easy and Stable...

So - if it was up to her it would be get a job and work for someone else and hope like hell you can stay there forever - for life.
Don't even take the time to consider that there might be something better somewhere else - so she doesn't even bother to look - Too Risky!!
Starting a home based business of any kind means uncertainty - and the possibility of risking ones money for profit!! Never happen with her.

I've tried to tell her she would be great at selling guns to the lady's.
There are lots of women that carry now days and she could be an example and or write something about it on our (my) SGS Facebook Page.
Forget it. Wasn't her idea to do this stupid gun thing, so don't expect any help from her.
Plus she might be putting herself out there for criticism or scrutiny and she's way above that.

And my losing money is a bit deceiving - I've spent a little more "gun business money" on myself.

And the customer service/fun part of the gun business where folks might stop by and visit.
I guess I kinda backed off on that as far as I had several people that loved to send me a text or message and ask, "How much for this gun"
and I'd look it up and tell them - then it was "Well how much is this gun then?"

And it was kinda exciting to start with - but after a while it isn't so much fun to waste 3 or 4 hours a night
on people I don't even know looking up guns that they would rarely buy.

There was one guy I did know that actually did buy close to ten thousand dollars worth of guns I just stopped responding to.
The cheap bastard knew I wanted to sell guns and worked me all the time.
Every sale I did with the guy the sales tax was more that what I made... So I stopped dealing with the guy.
Pissed him off too - he's had a couple of his friends text me and ask what a gun costs for him that I also ignored.
He can suck it from now on - go find another dumb gun dealer.

So I guess I'm not looking for sympathy or really even mean to be complaining that much about losing money.
When I investigated becoming a gun dealer what all the gun dealers said was true - There isn't much profit in new gun and ammo sales.

I found that out for myself and I guess I'm being a little more like Walt and buying guns for myself.
Like that 44 Magnum... I always wanted a 44 Magnum!! :great:
And that doesn't mean I won't jump on a gun I think I can make money on - Like this Sig.

And I'm just not going crazy, over the top and trying to solicit all the gun sales I can anymore.
I can jack it up again later if I want to.

But right now things are slowing down - and gun sales is a hobby for me - so I can put it on the "back burner" for a while. (-:
