buy a Taurus handgun, that is. But...the wife really liked the single stack Kahr that she shot a couple weekends ago, seems like all my doublestack ones just don't feel good to her. Ran across an online deal on the Taurus 709 slim for $160 free shipping, so got hold of my gun guy and he's ordering one in for her. Figure for under $200 I should be able to resell it if it doesn't work out and not lose too much money on the deal.

I've got a buddy who's really into the Taurus/Rossi thing. He's got a 38 lever action, a 45/410 rifle version of the Judge and a 40 cal revolver with the goofy moon clips. They all function flawlessly. I like the lever action a lot. I bet I could shoot the screws out of a stop sign as far as I could see em. The other 2 seem pointless. Quality wise???you could do worse.

I think Taurus has their quality up pretty good! The main issue I still hear reported on them is with their lifetime warranty... Bud of mine (an FFL) has a Taurus revolver he sent back for a rear sight blade replacement 2.5 yrs ago. Has called them 15-20 times. They won't send it back without the sight blade installed (it's dangerous), but they haven't fixed it yet either.

The little .380ACP Taurus - The 738TCP is the only one I've had and liked it.

It's kind of a smaller version of the 709 Slim I believe.

Let us know how you like it

Knock on wood, Ive had nothing but good luck with their guns and their customer service.

Enjoy your new pistol. Like you said, if you decide its not what you are looking for you can always sell it.

I had a 709 a couple of years ago.
I put 200 rds. fmj through it right out of the box with no hiccups.
The only words of caution I have would be that it is a "snappy" shooter due to the short barrel. Lots of recoil. Also, spare mags are impossible to get from Taurus and "after market" mags are usually junk.
I liked the little 709 and eventually traded it away.

I can get Taurus manufactured mags for it but they do run a bit pricey, just over $28. As far as the recoil, we shoot my SCCY and she's shot a couple of Kahrs that will be comparable.

I personally like the Taurus revolvers a lot. Semi-autos, eh not so much...had a pt111 g2 and just never cared for it. I seem to be in the minority with that opinion though.

There are a LOT of dissatisfied Taurus owners out there, that I found out pretty easily. More of them are hating on the customer service than the firearms though, although there are a lot who never got their pistols fixed to their satisfactions, one fellow even got his back with the rear sight broken and could never get them to send him a mailer to send it back in.

Closest thing I've ever owned to a Taurus is the Heritage .22 revolver, but Taurus bought them out after I bought that pistol.

You have to remember that like our Hi Points, you seldom hear from the happy customers. The unhappy ones are the ones that make it a point to post all over the net that they are not happy with their purchase.

I'm willing to be that like Hi Points, for every one bad Taurus out there, there are literally hundreds of ones that work fine that you will never hear about for the simple fact that they ARE working fine.

I haven't an issue with any of my Taurus firearms. Two revolvers and two semi automatic. I also have a Rossi rifle.

We've had good luck with our Tauruses.
They ain't S&W, but they are good, fun, very shootable guns.
I do have a problem with my PT92 chucking brass into my forehead, but then I have a Springfield XD that does it too, and my son swore off Glocks because they were shooting back.
I don't think Taurus is any better or worse as far as a serviceable firearm, but you won't have to take out a second mortgage to buy one either.

She picked it up this morning and just got home a bit ago. I tore it down and gave it a once-over, didn't see much that needed attention. Trigger pull is gritty but hopefully will smooth out with use. If the rain holds off, probably run some rounds through it tomorrow.
