It seems to me that there were many of the 38s that were re-chamberd to 257 Roberts (bigger case but slightly smaller bullet).

Look on the receiver for a marking, possibly hidden by the stock.

Thanks I will check into that, I hope that isn't the case but you never know with these old rifles.

This forum is only as good as YOU make it. Lets all work together and have a forum we can be proud of! But lets not forget to have FUN while we do it!

Comments, suggestions and opinions are always welcome. If I can help, I will.

Happy shooting Dave Gillespie - (Sharp Shooter), you will be missed and remembered.

We will miss you Jerry Roberts - (woodyubet), you will not be forgotten.

We are better off from having known you Dean Stephens -(ampersand) It wont be the same around here without you.

Tell me about it, I learned it the hard way. I picked one up with an in tact mum but the stock was replaced. I cleaned everything up good and took it to the range and fired it. When I looked at the fired case I knew something was wrong. Turned out to be a unmarked conversion.

It really ends up being a wildcat 6.5x257.
