As some of you already read, I picked up a new Ruger 10-22 yesterday.
Bought it from the original owner, she's had it since she was 11 years old.
Serial number puts it at 1988 manufacture.
I don't care for the little scope on it, but I haven't shot it yet, so maybe it's ok.

The scope sucked, but the rifle ran great.
I think I'll just remove the scope mount and run it with irons for now.

Sheez! I can't see past 15 yds with or without glasses any more and I'm far sighted, so I still need glasses to shoot at pistol distances. And there you go talking about iron sights. Arg. I'm crushed! lol

Looks like a nice 10/22 for being almost 30 years old!! :great:

And a wood stock looks better than a synthetic one IMHO.

I like the wood stocks too.
I tore it down and cleaned it pretty good, and heck, it looks like a new one.
I might put that stock away for now and put that thumbhole stock on it for a while.
Or I might put 10-22 #3 in that stock.
Ain't decided yet :)
Suddenly, I have the urge to do a 10-22 build.......

I'm with EX on this. The iron sights on my 10/22 in combination with my vintage eyesight ??? Useless. I'm thinking if there was a way to better the sight picture I'd use it more. I don't know if it's the coloring or height/angle of the setup, but it's the worst. I'd blame my eyes 100% but I have firearms with iron sights that I shoot well.
The rotary magazine is unique and it's reliability is outstanding, so I should just break down and put a scope on it. I bought it because everyone brags up these rifles. I almost never shoot it.

I have scopes on most of my rifles. I recently started wearing contacts and my shooting improved a lot. Trying to use open sights with bifocals is kind of a pain in the ass.

I tend to agree
I now have four 10-22s, and would like to add to the pile.
There's so many things a guy can do to those, you about need a few dozen just to use all the accessories

Exactly! My first one got treated to the AR kit. The other one I have is stuck in it's stock form. Just until I pick up another one that is. LOL
I'd love to put a couple together with the Gatlin gun kit! :-D
