Don't ya just hate it when all your parts come in...except for one? Yeah, still waiting on the scope, but other than that I managed to get it together today. Not real happy with the gas block, the pin supplied is a bit short and it kinda sorta looks slightly twisted to me, so if I run into any problems with it running that will be the first thing I change out for a little better quality one. Ended up going with an SAA marked Aero Precision upper receiver as I ran across a great deal on one on Slickguns.com, came complete with the dust cover and FA already installed, plus the cool little American flag on the rail and the SAA marking on the side.

Image

You can see the markings real well in this pic, along with the finger rest on the Strike Industries trigger guard.

Image

Decided to go with an end cap on the quad rail on this one. This isn't the brake that I'll be using, just threw it on to protect the threads till mine gets here.

Image

Not a big fan of the rails on top of the scope mount, but it was the cheapest setup I could find along the lines of what I was looking for. I've used the Leaper cantilever mount on a couple and it doesn't really rise up far enough to clear a 50mm objective bell.

Looks nice to me. Never been a fan of the rail on too on the scope mount either but I kinda like the brake, I was looking at one like it on Amazon the other day.

I threw that one on there to protect the threads until the one I ordered is delivered, have those on a couple of AR's and they work real well but make it a lot louder to each side, they run about $15 on ebay and amazon. If the raile on the top of the mount bother me too much, I'll mill them off and powdercoat the thing.

Lookin' Good Mo!! :great:

What kind of Scope Mount is that?

I know the solid ones are a better deal...
But Weaver makes those aluminum Quad Rings with the 2 individual rings on each mount
in an XX Tall that I'm sure will let a 50mm scope clear.

Image

The also make a "Tactical" ring the same height with a one-piece Skeleton ring top and 6 screws each...
For about twice the price....

Image

Ironsighter has some really tall steel elcheapo rings too.
I'm sure they'd be tall enough for a 500 scope too.
I have a set on my Huntin' AR (with a 40mm scope) and they're working good for me!!

Image

Fairly Large picture!!

But that solid mount is hard to beat...

Really like the stock on that thing too...

Wife has an identical one on her build... :funny:

Waiting on the Anderson barrel and AIM surplus BCG to get here and then she says she'll build it, she didn't want to even build the lower, says she wants to sit down and build the whole thing start to finish! But...she just saw the Shark muzzle brake I installed on my build and wants one for her build instead of the one I had put back for hers, and you know what that means. I told her that once these builds are done I'm throwing all my AR spare build parts into a box and selling them, otherwise I'll want to build another one. :dunno:

Scope arrived a few days early. All done now. Barska 6-20x50AO scope. Lots of people talk bad about Barska but I can't complain at all, I've run their 3-9x40 on everything from AK's, AR's, various .22's and even my .50 BP rifle and not had a problem one with any of them. I have a 3-9x50 Tasco on my other favorite AR and it's been fine as well, just wanted more magnification on this one.

Nice looking AR, Mo. I like that break, too. I've only had one Barska scope. Made the mistake of putting it on a 'scope-eater', a Mini-14 that's killed several BSA's and Tasco's. Cross-hairs fell to the bottom in about 50 rounds. I've had a Simmons on it for about 300 rnds, and so far it has held. On an AR should work fine though.

Took it out yesterday afternoon and again this afternoon. Ran 100%, no feeding or function problems but accuracy was way below what I expect from it so started troubleshooting. It looks like I may have several small problems that add up. The hole on the brake is a lot smaller than the one on a similar brake that just arrived for the wife's build, so I removed it completely which helped some. It's getting better the more I shoot it so I'll just keep feeding it ammo and watch. If it doesn't reduce the size of the 50 yard groups by half I'll be swapping out the scope and mount for a known good 3-9x40 off one of the other ones, if it's still sub-par I'll have to go with a barrel problem and see how good Anderson's warranty is.

I'll be interested to see what you come up with as my AR won't group well with any of the factory ammo or my reloads.

I'm gonna try a different powder but havemt picked one yet.

All I tried was my Xtreme 55gr reloads and some 55gr reloads of bullets I bought from bulletheads.com that I knew wouldn't be all that accurate. It's getting better but I'm not liking the scope, I'll be returning it. The eye relief is just too stingy on it, you move a little closer or back and you lose it too fast. My 3-9x40's aren't near as bad on it, I may go over to a Tasco like the one I have on my favorite shooter...no money to splurge on anything too expensive and just a cheap SOB anyways. I sighted in a guys .270 last week with a Redfield scope on it, wasn't overly impressed with it either for what he paid for it. Deer season opens Saturday and I'm taking the AK anyways...
