Happy shooting Dave Gillespie - (Sharp Shooter), you will be missed and remembered.

We will miss you Jerry Roberts - (woodyubet), you will not be forgotten.

We are better off from having known you Dean Stephens -(ampersand) It wont be the same around here without you.

Some National Guard units were still issued trapdoor Springfields at the onset of WW1.

They were shipped to Europe with no weapons and issued British, Russian and French hardware on arrival.

My late Father in Law had one of those
It had a nice patina on the metal, it was in great shape.
Sister in Law's husband steel wooled the "rust" off it. :dunno: :groan:

Its in great shape for its age, wish it had a little stronger rifling but what can I expect for a 130 year old gun. gonna have to slug the bore and cast for it. at least it has rifling all the way down the barrel and I don't see any bulges or anything in the barrel.

husk sorry to hear about the dumdum with the steel wool, I hope you smacked him with a rolled up newspaper?

Nice rifle Walt!!! Even the French went to smokeless powder, metallic cartridges by 1900. I have an 1894 8mm Lebel , bolt action, 3 rd stripper clip.

Seriously, that looks to be condition excellent from the photos!

I have 2 8mm Lebels, one made 1890 and one in 1892 also have a French Berthier that was made in around 1918 or so. The Lebel was my oldest gun until I got the springfield

I shot her today, even the "reduced" loads that the guy sent with the rifle packed quite a wallop. 5 shots and my shoulder is still sore. But it sure was neat to shoot.
