My AR build is ready to test fire even without a muzzle extension or sights. I ground down the crowfoot wrench to fit and torqued the barrel nut numerous times to 30lbft, then to 40, and finished off setting the guard timing with the 50lbft torqueing. Then I assembled the gas tube to the adjustable gas block (mostly a pita). Slide the works on the barrel, verified the gas hole and gas block aligned (visually), and clamped the block down. Ran the BCG into battery and pressure checked the barrel, seemed to pressurize slightly with the gas block fully closed. Put on the guard and it all fits! Now I get to take it all apart again. But before I do that I want to fire it to set the gas flow correctly. I might need to open up the gas port from what I've read. :dunno: I didn't measure it but it is substantially smaller than the hole in the gas block.

I showed a way to align the hole in the gas-block with the hole in the barrel in one of my AR posts.

I saw the Midway video where they try to sell us the little plastic picks that have the crease to break them inside the barrel. I figured that a bit of wood would do the same thing. But i was in a hurry and I'm gonna take it apart anyway to locktite the appropriate screws and bolts. This is the gas block I got>

https://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPGS-5B

The gas hole in it is at least 50% larger than the one in the barrel. Pinching it on visually I felt no interference betwixt the gas tube and gas key without the bolt installed. :dunno:

Still, wouldn't hurt to know your approach too. Could you post that vid here?

I just use a sharpie and draw a line forwards on the barrel in line with the gas port, then another on the front of the gas block. While I do reference them prior to tightening everything down, I have yet to have one off center just going by feel. After centering the barrel nut hole I just slide the gas tube through the nut and receiver hole (attached to the gas block) and rotate it back and forth, checking for drag, then just center it and check my marks.

OK, the muzzle brake/blast forwarder is on the way, should be here by Friday. Have two 30 round mags filled and ready. If I did everything correctly my hands and face should remain intact after I shoot it. :funny: :dunno:

I haven't used lock-tight on anything yet because i will be taking it apart again. Maybe

Can't wait for for the report on how it works. I'm working on a 300 blackout now, just need a stock and buffer setup.

Pictures?? :dunno: Actually I was going to take some after the muzzle brake was on it. I still don't have any sights though, I might just buy some cheap Chinese flipups off fleaspay for $19.00. The same exact set as sold by magpul for $40 more it looks like. :dunno:

It's really not a very exciting looking gun, it's black, it's almost all cheap phosphate coated, and did I mention it's black(ish), sort of grayish in places. Not very scary looking either. No technomallishness about. Nothing hanging all over it to make it 'tactical'. :great:  It actually has no purpose, just don't tell the anti 's that. :ninja:

They're all fun to look at Randy!!
Especially when they're being assembled.

To me - It's almost like assembling an engine and hearing it run for the 1st time!!
You hear it run and you know its put together right.
And a little bit of a feeling of accomplishment sets in... (-:

I never use lock-tite on anything. Well, I did once...on the set screws for a gas block and never will again. Needed to remove it and ended up having to heat it up with a propane torch then use a small impact driver that I had on hand for when I was working on motorcycles. And that was the blue stuff, not the red!

What Mo said - don't use that crap on a rifle anywhere.
On an old Harley - yes - and use the red stuff!!
Guns - no...
