It is, according to the BATFE. Since it comes fitted with a pistol grip instead of a buttstock, its considered a PGO firearm instead of SBR or AOW by the BATFE. So, it should be legal to own. however, it seems Ohio may see things differently and consider it a sawed off shotgun (SBR or AOW), since the barrel is only 14". You can read the BATFE confirmation letter and an Attorney's legal opinion here.

So, my thinking is Ohio may not be the only State likely to take this position. If you're thinking about getting one, it would be wise to check into it first. Caveat emptor. :rules:

I have an 18" 12 gauge pump from IAC that I have had a pistol grip on, but it's been removed and tossed into the parts box. Fun to play with but I needed something with an actual stock to hunt with if I want to.

I made a Mossberg 500 (actually a Coast to Coast shotgun) into a tactical job. I didn't like the pistol grip either so I put an ATI adjustable stock on it. Much better now.

Best thing to do is ask an FFL in your state. Any good one will have an idea of if its legal in your state or not. Its very hard to keep up with all of the different rules in all of the different states.

We can assume its illegal in kalifornia, massachusetts and chitcago of course ;)

We are better off from having known you Dean Stephens -(ampersand) It wont be the same around here without you.

Palmetto State has (had) them for less than $400 and it says "Not For Sale for Residents of Texas or Ohio"

That's what I ended up with on mine, but ditched the cheapy stock that came with the kit and put one on that has the release inside instead of on the bottom and has QD hookups on it.
