Well, there it is. I'm planning to hit the range tomorrow and send a few rounds down range before I try to crown the muzzle. I've shortened the barrel to 20" and only deburred it.

I just want to get a little before and after to see how much difference I can make.

More tomorrow.

Thanks, Cornhusker it was a bubba when I got it. They really butchered the stock when they fitted it. I HAD to bed everything just to get some integrity back to the stock. No two numbers match. If I had to guess all the parts came out of different guns.

I just decided to have fun with it.

This is what the crown looks like now.

This is eight rounds of silver bear at 50 yards. The more is off center so it can't be crowned on a lathe. I do have a 45 degree counter sink bit I may try in a drill press. I won't be able to get back to the range till Friday to test it again with the crown done.

I get a lot of crap for "destroying a piece of history". I like it and that's what matters. I like "bubba guns", gives me something to do in the winter.

I'm hoping a decent crown tightens up the groups.

I hate to see the old war rifles cut up but if bubba had already destroyed its collectability then no harm no foul in my book. I look at it as you have given it a new lease in life

I'm the last one to destroy ANYTHING with historical or collector value.

I'm working on restoring a Springfield model 86 from the 1930s. It's in rough shape but I like it and it shoots great (I need to get phat mike to blue it over the winter). I can't find original sights for it and I sold the Lyman sights that came on it and paid for the gun. I did find some period appropriate aftermarket sights though.

I got my grandpa's Iver Johnson .410 that he kept on the barn. I got it working and cleaned it up and refinished the furniture and did a cold blue. It looks better but someday I want to case harden the receiver like it was originally, some day.

The new crown, not perfect but about as good as It's gonna get without special tools.

Group did improve.

I pulled one anticipating recoil. My shoulder isn't happy with me but I shot 20 rounds of 203gr Silver Bear. I wanted to find PPU or something else in a brass case. I've never slugged a barrel by I think this will be the first when I find out how, exactly. Then I'll get some dies.

Shot everything at 50 yards. The bore is pretty nasty on this rifle too. I'll get a better pic of the crown today.
