I had one of those MidwayUSA 6.5-20x 50mm Whitetail Classic Mil-Dot scopes on my AR and I decided I wanted to put a different scope on it.
I took it off and was blowing the dust off and cleaning it up and I noticed this:

Image

You can see right around the 11:00 position there is a very noticeable flaw in the lens coating or the lens itself...

I bought this thing in late November - early December on sale. I gave $120 for it.
Now, they want $270 for the same scope!!! :thinkin:

I'm trying to decide if i should just ignore it and live with it, or see if Midway will replace it...

I AM going to put it on a gun and sell it - I would say if the customer noticed that, the wouldn't be very happy!!
I wouldn't sell it either without showing and telling them about it...

Some folks probably wouldn't care at all, especially with a little discount on the price!!
But for some, it would be a deal-breaker...

I do believe I'll see if Midway will replace it - I bet they do...
They famous for being so good to deal with!!

I'll have to see what kind of warranty it has.
I might have to send it back to Simmons now - I'm not sure.

But if it's too big of a PITA I'll just keep it...

I didn't notice this when I put it on my rifle.
I didn't notice anything when I was using it either.

And I've never seen this happen on any other scope...

Can you see a visible flaw when looking through it? Does it affect the image?

I'd send it back. It may leak inert gas and fog over. It's not what you honestly paid for.

Nope - can't tell anything looking through it...
But a guy might if he had a good one to compare it with?? :dunno:

I checked on Midway's site.
They have a "return sheet" to fill out to explain the what & why when sending stuff back.
Their policy is after 60 days - they'll replace defective merchandise.
That sounds fair - works for me!
I still have the original box and everything.
So, I'll be sending it back for a replacement.

The scope has apparently appreciated $150 in value since I bought it!! :great:
So, I just as well get a good one!! :D

We'll see how it goes...

I love the cheap scopes I have heard people say leeapers/utg are garbage, I have had one on my 308 hog gun going on 5 years now just put their compact bug buster on my AR. Sure $1000 optics look nice but for what use it for my $100 scope does just fine

Just like gun snobs - there are a bunch of "Scope Snobs" out there too.

I was at another forum where a fellow asked about BSA scopes.
Some had one word replies like "trash", "junk" and "worthless"...

Another guy suggested something about how great his Zeiss Conquest is - so I looked it up - $1,000-$1,300 scope!!

So, I put up my 2nd post there - I told them I was putting a cheap Simmoms scope on my rifle.
That Zeiss Conquest cost over 20 times what my cheap Simmons cost - over 3 time what my freakin' rifle cost!!

And I pointed out that I didn't think it was too cool to call the cheap scope's all junk and worthless.
If they were all junk and worthless - there wouldn't be so many people buying them, would there??

Sure a cheap scope isn't as good as a Ziess Conquest - but at 20+ times the price, the Ziess better be!!

And I told them for most hunting situations, a cheap scope will work just fine.

There just a bunch of 'Hey look at me!! I have a bigger dick than you because I can spend a bunch more money than you can!! Look at me!! And my expensive scope!!""
Then, all the sudden, because they spent a bunch of money, they are an expert on the subject...

I also told them that I wouldn't even feel comfortable hunting with a $1,000+ scope attached to it.

I've played the guitar for 30+ years, and I always compared these snobs to this guy:
The one that spends $1,500 on a guitar.
Then he brings it over to my house to wave it around under my nose and talks about "equipment"...
Amps, cords, picks, strings and other guitars he owns - and generally how much he's spent on such things.

But the guy can't play the guitar!!
But he's a self-appointed "expert" because he spent a bunch of money...

I'm sure it's just human nature...

Optics are insane some mounts go for more than my scope. Truth is with modern production in China a warehouse might produce a product under several differnt names. I'd say most who trash cheaper scopes never use them. If you go online there are claims that utg scopes won't hold up to 223. Mine is going strong after hundreds of rounds of 308. I just can't see spending that much more to have a little clearer glass.

With modern technology even China scopes are getting better and better... at one time I would not consider NCstar scopes but now own several.

I finally got that scope shipped off to MidwayUSA yesterday!!!
I think I sent it back in the same box it arrived in...

Image

Looks like it will be exchanged for another one.
I printed out this form and filled it out and sent it with.

http://media.midwayusa.com/pdf/company/web_returns.pdf

I also printed out the Order that shows when I originally bought it and sent it with too.

I'm curious to see how long this will take... :D

Scott,
I'm glad you asked!!
Midway sent my money back to me, and I thought that was it...
Then, I got an email updating the status of my "backorder"

Backorder???

I clicked the link and Midway has that scope on backorder for me.
Due to arrive around July 17th.

So, I thought that was pretty cool that Midway did that.
It IS a hell of nice scope! And I gave around a $115 for it.
Now Midway is selling the same scope for $279 or so.
I thought about canceling the backorder - but I think I'll let it ride.

I'll sure look this next one over pretty close before I use it or sell it!! (-:
