Here is an evil black gun I just about have finished... Started out life as a Remington 742 semi auto in 30-06. I had the barrel threaded, put a brake on it... got a 10 rd mag took the wood furniture off and put synthetic with a pistol grip stock... topped it with a 4-16x44 illuminated reticle scope and attached a bipod to it. Been tinkering with it for a couple of months now... Got more money in it than its worth I'm sure but it is nice to look at :)

Nice
I've got a 740, I could EBR that one of these days

If you have decent wood put it up on fleabay to help cover the costs.. My stock set sold for 160ish which covered the synthetic furniture and the 10 rd mag... fun project for sure.

Well, that one didn't stick around long. Step-daughter's baby-daddy came down and saw it, said his boss was wanting one and what would it take for me to part with it. $600 and out the door it went. Thinking I need a bolt gun in .308...

Don't know what kind of bolt gun you are looking for, but the Ruger American is a nice mid priced .308 bolt action.

I'm looking at the Remington 738 since it has a two year warranty and adjustable trigger. The Savage Axis only has a one year, and from what I can find out, Ruger has no warranty at all.

Bought a new Remington 738 in ..308 off Gunbroker this afternoon for $313 shipped, tack on the $25 for the transfer for a total $338. Now just have to get dies and components to reload for it, I might just buy factory ammo for a bit as I don't know how much I'll actually shoot it.

Mo, looks like a nice little rifle :great:
I think it's a 783, not 738?

One of them numbers anyways...I had to post quickly over the past three days as we've been in constant storms and my satellite internet has been getting knocked out badly due to the heavy clouds and rainfall. This was the worst I've ever seen it as far as signal loss for both my Hughesnet satellite internet and the DirecTv feed.

Yep, it's the 783 in .308. Found out later last night that they also have a $40 rebate from Remington on that UPC, so an even better deal! Got the shipping notice today so it should be at the shop soon, have to check the Fedex tracking. Picked up some cheap break-in ammo at Walmart today, sure a lot more $$ than .223! Bought two boxes of the ZQ1 7.62x51 brass cased stuff to get the scope set in close and break in the barrel with, it's supposedly a bit milder than the civilian load used in actual .308.
