Update- just purchased a Anderson stripped upper/lower set on sale. I guess this build will be the standard 5.56 or .223wyld barreled build. :thinkin: I'm thinkin of an 18-20" SS H-bar for this one, mid-length gas system, black brake. Maybe even FDE for the fern-ah-ture. :dunno: Things change often in my world...

Just because you are unnatural, bizarre, bring problems on yourself, and don't fit in does not mean I dislike you...well, yeah it does

Update- Can't remember if I related the purchase of the wrong crowfoot wrench to tighten my barrel nut. I had to reorder the right one. Then when it shows up I'll need to destroy it by grinding it thinner to fit the flats... :groan: I guess buying inexpensive sometimes means getting Chinese chit. Then I'll likely find out it is metric :groan:

The only thing left to get is a muzzle device. And sights of some sort. But at least I'll be able to test fire it without sights or a muzzle covering. Some gun shows approaching next month, one this weekend but I spent all my gun money on turkeyday food. Oh foolish me!

I spent all my Black Friday/Christmas money on car repairs on the cheap car we picked up for the stepdaughter. Managed to squeak out enough to buy three Pmags and some anti-walk trigger/hammer pins for my 80% build, pretty much it.

Whatever muzzle device you buy, DON'T get one of the "fishbone" style ones. I got one and it was extremely annoying as you got muzzle blast waves back on your face. I prefer this style and use them on pretty much every build now.

I'm looking at this one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-8-24-Muzzle-Brake-ZERO-RECOIL-S5-13-16-x16-TPI-Sleeve-High-Quality-USA/282251729951?_trksid=p2054436.c100039.m2059&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107094819%26meid%3D324c11915c2c4a9ab76dd1d74366c30d%26pid%3D100039%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D282251729951

Unless they sell out. Then I'll get one from Witt machine for twice as much...

I'm still looking however, I find new and exciting Chinese distributors every day...

I would think that diverting the muzzle blast forward would increase felt recoil over a standard brake that diverts it to either side and upward. While I never took physics, it just doesn't sound like it would be effective.

I felt the same way Mo, I watched a couple vid reviews by magazine types, a shootout between brands as it were, and they mostly agreed they work. My guess is they work because of time, meaning that the initial blast coming out from around the base of the bullet as it leaves the muzzle hits the rearward facing 'walls' of the cutouts in the brake creating the forward impulse on the firearm itself. Then the gases move outwards and then forward with nothing else to hit solidly except the walls of the outer shell. After the gases hit the first wall it loses enough umph to not be able to push rearwards very much. :dunno:

The one I posted works fantastic, but it is loud to either side of course but reducing muzzle climb was my only goal and it does that.

Well, my problem is the wrong guard I bought. Too long it is. I am only getting a forwarder due to that. Just so I don't have blast going through the last 1/2" of the guard. When I start the next rifle I'll get a shorter guard and switch em out then decide on whether removing the shell works better for me.
