There's no need to check headspace in and AR if you bought your barrel from a reputable manufacturer as it's set there during installation of the barrel extension.

OK, a setback. Or rather another in a small string of setbacks or delays. Tonight i discovered my armorers wrench does not work with this proprietary barrel nut. It has 1-1/4" flats in the middle of the nut and all my wrenches are too wide to fit the slots. :x My crowfoot wrenches only go up to 1". None of my adjustable wrenches fit either. That's what I get for buying less expensive. I like the hand guard although it's too long so I ordered a linear comp for it which will take the blast out beyond the end of the guard. It's attached with six screws to a steel nut. I expect to buy another guard from them that is shorter yet attaches the same, then I'll keep this one for a 18"- 20" build.

It's gettin close enough to complete to take pictures. Nutin fancy for sure, all black inside and out. As soon as I find a wrench that fits it I can twist the nut on tight and finish it up. I might have to guestimate the torque unfortunately. Shouldn't be too hard, I have a bale weight tester that reads to 100lbs. 1' x lbs of pull = torque (or something like that). Or maybe it's 2' x lbs of pull/2? I can never remember.... :out: :mdr:

:groan: :groan:

It is getting frustrating. The barrel nut that came with the hand guard has the flats for the wrench in the center of the side of the nut instead of on the end. This placement requires a crowfoot wrench in order to use a torque wrench on the nut. :groan: The flats are also to narrow for a normal wrench. :? I have a wrench the right size and could extrapolate the torques easy enough but the jaws are about a 1/16" to thick. No, I am not grinding down the jaws of an expensive wrench. :no2: I went to two stores looking for a 1-1/4" crow foot but no luck. I found a few online so I guess it will have to wait another week or so.

I got two mags for it. I think at this point before actually stripping rounds out of them the ASC brand mag is the better of the two. It sounds smoother as the follower moves. :dunno:

It doesn't have holes in it for the gas tube? That's where my AR wrench goes into.

Nope, it's thin enough to not cover the gas tube hole in the upper. It's a steel nut. I'm just gonna order a 1-1/4" crowfoot and grind it down to fit if necessary.

Makes me glad I bought a barrel with an upper already attached

I expected some delays, I ordered a crowfoot today. Still need something to put on the end of the barrel and some sights or an optic of some sort. I'd rather have sights but my eyes tell me optics would work better. :groan:

Randy, they make sights that sit at an angle so you can have an optic and tip it a bit and use the irons.

Sadly, my eyes are not good enough to use iron sights anymore. I have trifocals. Just finding (focusing on) the front sight is a problem, the rear sight is never going to happen. I shoot by pointing in the general direct...

I buy the solid aluminum ones that have an elevation adjustment on the rear sight as well as the windage, and the front sight has the standard elevation adjustment, I've never HAD to use the rear elevation adjustment but it's nice to have it if for some reason I couldn't get enough out of the front one. I use the large rear aperture, as they're only intended for a fast sight picture on something too close to have time to use the scope on. I was initially concerned about the "tilted" buttstock and it's fit to my shoulder, but it actually fits nicely into the pocket.

Here's a shot of them on the wife's build. She eventually went to a Bushnell RES-25 red dot on her setup. Her front sight is on the railed gas block, on mine I have a much longer quad rail on it and the front sight is a lot farther forward wich gives it a longer sight radius.

Is your wife right handed or wrong handed? I'm wrong handed, so if/when I get sights and if I go with offset, are they adaptable side to side? The optic I'll get will likely not be a scope, still studying on what is affordable and most useful in that regard.

yep, you can just flip them around. It puts the elevation "knob" on the front of the rear sight but it's not like you use it other than when first setting them. These are the ones that I buy, they look to have gone up about $4 in price since 2015.
