there may be a problem with it. It is going to be a stash gun, so no projects or mods.

I have not even fired it yet. As soon as I got it out of the box, I heard what sounded like something loose in the grip area. It is the Magazine Lockout that is sliding up and down and seems to be loose in the channel it fits in. I see on the info sheet that there is also a Magazine Lockout Spring. It sounds reasonable that spring tension would hold the Lockout in place. I cannot see any place there is a spring bearing on the Lockout. It is loose and noisy. I can reach up and slide it around. If I insert the mag the noise may or may not continue. I can push it forward and the noise decreases or stops. Pull the mag base rearwards and the Lockout seems to be free to move.

Are all C9s like this, or do I have a 'Call Mom' issue?

Sounds like it is a broken spring to me. Mine moves abit, but it is not loose or noisy.

Its not the magazine lockout. Stick the tip of your finger in the rear of the mag well and pinch the rear of the grip between thumb and finger, then shake. If its silent then its the counter-weight for the drop safety in the rear of the grip. All C9s to my knowledge do this. Most would advise against modifying it, but I took a tiny, tiny bit of newspaper and stuck it between the grip and the weight. Your choice as to whether you modify it or not.

I agree with Broomhead. All my HPs have a bit of a rattle, especially when empty. But if it's noisy as shit, it might be something else. Give mom a call if it really concerns you.
I just checked all my HPs and if I flip them back and forth violently then I do hear a slight click, but they don't rattle at all. Doesn't make a sound when handled normally.

Most of mine rattle a lot, but they all function just fine.

Pistol was purchased new.

Called Mom, tech bugged out at 11:00 Ohio time. What the hey???

Not the counter-weight. If I hold the Lockout bar and shake the shinola out of the gun I can hear the counterweight. The rattle of the loose Lockout drowns out the counterweight and any other noisemaking parts.

I can hold the gun muzzle up. Looking into the well, I can tilt the gun side to side and see the Lockout move side to side in its channel. If I tilt the gun forward and back it slides up and down the channel somewhere around 1/4 to 3/8 inch.

Maybe I should ask this another way: Where is the Magazine Lockout Spring installed? There is a spring on the parts list and exloded drawing, but nothing to indicate exactly where in the mag well that spring would be located.

I'm not sure how to answer your ? but yes every C9 or CF380 I own or have owned rattled like a can of nails. I'd guess if the gun will fire with a mag inserted and if it won't with the mag removed you're likely ok.
HP works a half day on Friday, longer Mn-Thursday.

Seriously, mine don't rattle, none of them. They click if you turn them violently back and forth. I know I've said this before, but I'm saying it again.
I'm not trying to be a dick, but I wouldn't want one that just rattled so that the enemy heard me coming.
I take one of mine deer hunting with me, so I wouldn't want a noisy ass gun screwing up my hunt.
I'm just saying.

Mine rattles without a magazine. With it, it's quiet.

I haven't fired it yet as I'm waiting for Mom to call back and see if it's normal/ok.

My guess is the rattling you hear is the drop safety. Let us know what mom says about it.

There really isnt much to them just the drop safety and mag lock out bar with a very basic sear assembly. If it is really bugging you id strip the whole thing down.

here are a few good links the first is complete take down

The mag safety spring is mounted to the inside of the right hand grip. It's very small. My C9 doesn't rattle unless the magazine is out, but then again I did remove my mag safety (hated it).
