I saw the Hi Point JCP40 in the Dunham's Sports fall handgun flyer cheap. The wife and I talked about it and being afraid of a Killary win in November and what it will mean for gun pricing going forward, decided to add another gun/caliber to the safe. My wife pointed out that while Donald might make it, buying another Hi Point on sale is better than money in the bank. Only one (a C9 I bought at the height of the gun/ammo shortage for $189) is worth less than I paid. My carbines have nearly doubled in value. I also ordered 40S&W ammo at 12.50/ box with free shipping from Sportsman's. Guess we'll be putting bigger holes in stuff this weekend. :thumb:

I think you'll like the round. I have been shooting .40 for years and really like it. Some don't, saying that is has too much snap. It IS a high pressure round and does have a snap, but enjoyable to me!

I love shooting .40 s&w, ever since I got my JCP years ago and several thousand rounds ago.

40 is a good caliber, but I moved on from it when I discovered 10mm. Congrats on your new pistol!

I still run .40 and 10mm. 10mm is just too much around town. .40 is more comfortable for urban use in my mind.

I like the .40, but in a Shield, shooting a box or so is plenty for one session.
Jason, hop on that scooter and head south and west, you can shoot a .40

It seems like I've spent/invested a lot of money on guns and ammo this year. The last time I did this was right after our current president took office. Eric Holder started squawking about gun restrictions (remember talk about putting serial numbers on bullets?), and I began hoarding. I just have a really bad feeling about what's coming. Call me paranoid, but with half the population on some type of government assistance and Killary calling for opening the borders to everyone, the only bridge she going to be building is the one to anarchy. Her line that a rising tide raises all boats doesn't work if the boats are above maximum occupancy.

Or in her case, chained to the bottom with anchor chain. Maybe that'll float her boat... lol

George, let us know how you like the .40 after you've shot it some...
Like I say, I personally like the round. Some don't. But then, I like stiff
.357 mags and heavy 10mms too! ;)

I got chance to shoot the 40. First impressions...I dry fired it a few times to get a feel for the trigger. Really gritty and stiff. The 9s and 380s have a little nicer feel to them. Loading the magazine told a different story. Loading was easy and smooth, giving me a sense of better quality than my initial perception. Out on my range I was anticipating a lot of recoil. A friend has a Taurus revolver in 40 that kicks like a mule. The slide racked with minimal effort and I grasped firmly with both hands as I squeezed off the first round like a newbie with his first firearm. What? It wasn't much different than the 9mm. The extra weight and slide mass balanced the recoil well. The next few rounds I was less worried about recoil and started to focus more on the target. The sights are typical Hi Point, which I like. The gun was way easier to shoot than the Polish P64 palm pounder or the previously mentioned Taurus. Half way through the box the grit in the trigger smoothed out a little. I was expecting kick and muzzle flip. Instead I got accurate and reliable with no failures of any kind. Now I have to find a flashlight for it. Too bad the 9 doesn't have a rail. The 40 might find a home in the nightstand

George, if you haven't done polishing on HP trigger connection parts before, here is where I wrote about mine... where and what to polish to make it WAAY smoother and a bit softer.
Pay very close attention to not round off any 90 degree angles. Only polish the flat contact areas as the powder coat imparts resistance and roughness. You will also see where one piece rides against
the inside and creates friction. Polish that mirror smooth and you'll notice a good deal of improvement.
