I know what your thinking...not another one of these! :eeewww: . I have done all of the things suggested to correct FF problems but was still having trouble with JHP's. This is why I have the .40, as a personal defense pistol and if it didn't feed JHP's reliably then it's not much good to me.

I got to studying the mag closely looking for a solution then it hit me...whack!! The mag has this plastic strip running down the front of it to size it for the .40 S&W cartridge as it and the .45 use the same mag. Well what I did was take a fine rasp and filed a slight taper towards the top so the top 2 bullets have the nose angle up to the proper position for feeding. This worked like a charm and both FMJ and JHP feed perfectly.

Great info ares! The .40 is the only HP I don't own, so I didn't realize they used the same mag as the .45 but with an insert?

The follower is different also, not by much, but a bit.

I forgot to introduce myself dang it. Oh well ....HI! I noticed that the rim of the hollow point was dragging back just enough to mess up the first 2 or 3 rounds out of the mag. I had already bent the mag lips seven ways from Sunday with only moderate success. It just made sense. I enjoy shooting that .40 more than my M&P 9c because that 9 slaps the crap outta my hands. The .40 is more like a soft thud and it's very accurate. This is a really neat forum.

Glad to have you here ares! :thumb:

It's sad to admit, but the mags are definitely the weak point of Hi Points. Sometimes you get good ones right out of the box and other times you don't. But they're normally easily fixed to make them as good as the others.
