Got what I was asking, $600..now have about 1k rounds of ammo sitting here...so just ordered a 7.62x39 complete upper for an AR from Classic Arms. They have a Bear Creek upper that's complete with bcg, ready to pin on for $225 shipped. Damn mags are pretty dear though, $15.95 apiece for 20 round one's was the best price I could find.

Sounds like a decent price for an upper and bcg to me.

Classic must have bought a bunch of them cheap, the same one is $325 on Bear Creeks website.

Sounds like a fun project.
I wonder how the AR platform will perform with steel cased ammo over time?
Mine are all DI and don't like steel case. I don't know how the piston set up acts.
Good luck with it and let us know how it goes :great:

Don't know about the .556 or .223 but my 7.62 shoots steel case as good as any. :dunno:

DO'H, missed the 'over time' part! Nevermind... :ninja: :run:

I'll end up reloading for it I'm sure. Neighbor swapped me some American Eagle brasscased fmj straight across for Wolf HP steel cased because he has always used the Wolf when deer hunting. I also have some PPU brass cased soft point that is round-nosed and the AK flattened the exposed lead enough that accuracy was terrible. Might do better in the AR, if not I'll burn it up to have the brass.

This is the one I am holding out for... They say no feeding issues and it uses standard AK mags and drums.

I never liked the "rock-in" movement on the AK mags, maybe because I spent so much time with AR's.
