Just plain stupid. Foolish mistakes all the time is what we see. This hobby/sport can be fatal.
Doesn't take that much to follow all the rules. Is stupid not to and dumb luck to not get hurt
while not following rules.

We are all human (I think) and we do get apathetic , careless, and forget. Just try and not get careless a gun is made to shoot. You can have fatal and not just a wall or dresser accident . We are all legally responsible for every bullet that we shoot. I have heard so many stories about close calls since I had my ND, it's scary . Please everyone be careful.

Now, since the common consensus is that :stupid: around my house, I will never invite anyone over to shoot.

As such, when they say to treat every gun as if it's loaded, I don't. So lets be realistic....Unless someone else gives it to me, it is my gun and I am responsible for knowing it's condition. So in the comfort and security of my own house I play with my pistols all the time- I remove the magazine, open the slide and look for light at the end of the tunnel. Then I can do anything I want to and do. The idea is to respect the potential of the gun, not fear my own stupidity. Learn to do it right, just like driving a car or riding a motorcycle, and a gun is as safe as either of those weapons.

I think that still qualifies as treating them as if they were loaded, Randy. When I decide to 'play' with any of my guns (clean, draw practice, whatever), the first thing I do is unload it. There is no use checking it first because all my firearms are kept loaded. Anyway, totally agree with what you said.

Tincup, I don't know about the whole Federal law thing, but they turned him away. I think they said it was because they are a privately owned hospital, that they don't have to accept non life threatening conditions.

I got peppered with #7.5's a couple times while bird hunting.

Had an ND 8mm round strike a concrete wall less than an inch from my head. That was like the 4th or 5th time that day that I almost got shot by my intoxicated BIL while hunting. After he passed away a few years ago, his Son, my nephew of course, told me those were not accidents at all, and that he actually intended to kill me that day.

I also dropped a revolver back in the early 70's while rabbit hunting, landed on the hammer, it discharged, the bullet went through the crotch of my jeans, missing my family jewels fortunately.

Almost shot myself in the foot with the same M10 I ND into the living room wall.

Quail hunting with a friend, he tripped while climbing up the side of a wash while walking behind me. He was shooting a single shot 20 ga, with the hammer back, and when he tripped he gripped the stock, of which his finger was on the trigger, boom! Nearly blew my head off. He was so upset about it, he didn't hunt the rest of the day.

GS, you must have really messed up in a previous life. You should write a book with your stories.

Always gotta get back on the horse that threw ya. I grew up as a pre-teen and teenager with guns, had one until it was stolen in my early twenties. Then I started moving around so much I never had a use for one. Just got back into using them about ten years ago. I don't hunt so never needed one for that. I never cared much about staying alive so I never needed one for self defense and, like now, I was always just too busy to enjoy them.

That will change in about 13 weeks though.

A bunch of us were standing at a table I use for holding ammo when my son tripped a clay thrower while in the middle of loading it. Instead of flying down range, the clay flew at us striking a buddy in the back of the head. The clay exploded into a million pieces and he went down like a sack of rocks. He wasn't badly hurt, thank God. We all laugh about it now but when it happened I thought "all these guns and this is what gets him?" Not as dramatic as some of the gun discharge stories but careless is careless. Never know what's gonna get ya.
