I sold a shotgun to a guy in Rapid City. I got it all bubble wrapped and boxed up yesterday.
The UPS guy skipped me for some reason. He called and said he was sorry.

It's the wife's birthday today - She decided she wants to go to Rapid City today.
I figure - cool!! The guy wanted me to ship that shotgun to Cabela's, I've sent guns there before and I have their FFL on file - I'll just take it there myself and drop it off. Save me some shipping cost.

I take the shot gun in the door and the guy opens the box and puts a chamber flag in it - the barrel is separated from the receiver so he sticks it in the detached barrel - and puts a trigger lock on it...

I have to be escorted to the "gun area" of the store and I can not carry the box the shotgun is in.
We get there, and the guy takes it behind the counter and asks what I'm up to.
I explain I'm bringing this gun for them to transfer to the buyer. There is an envelope with a copy of my FFL in it with the guys name and address and phone number written in the outside. There is an invoice inside the box with his info on it too.

"I'm sorry sir, we can't accept a gun like this from a private individual."
I have another copy of my FFL in hand and show it to him.
"I'm a gun dealer. This is another copy of my FFL. I've sent guns here before for transfer and I have your FFL on file." I say.

"I understand" dumb-fuck says "But we've never had an individual just bring a gun here like this for transfer."

"Well, all you have to do is check my FFL out on the EZ check thing and add it to your A&D book. When the guy gets here, you do the background check - charge him a fee - and he's on his way. I do it all the time."

"I understand" Dimple-dick says, "But this is a new thing. We've never had an individual bring a gun in like this before. It's a new thing and were checking into it."

"I usually send the guns via UPS - but the guy forgot to stop. And we were coming to Rapid today so I brought it along. It's no different than if the UPS guy brought it to you."

"I understand." Shit-for-brains said, "And you can't come behind the counter".

WTF?? I just standing there - FFL in hand waiting - and this guy is more or less right in my face...

Ok fine - while I'm waiting I go look at a few things near the counter and then come back...
I realize the guy is watching me - I am never out of his sight.
Watching me like I'm a damn criminal - trying to pull something on them.

Keep in mind - this is Cabela's ... "The Worlds Formost Outfitters"
And the people behind the gun counter are so fucking stupid, they don't even understand how a transfer works!!

Eventually, the "smart" boss guy they were looking for shows up. "I'm sorry. We can't accept your gun for somebody else to pick up. That's not how's it's done."

I unfold my FFL and show it to him while he starts explaining some other shit - and mid-sentence...

"Oh - I see you're a gun dealer."

That's what I've been telling these guys!!

"Do you have the guys information..."

Yes!! His name address and phone number - inside and outside the box!!!

"Well ok sir. We had a serious miscommunication here. I apologize for that. "
Finally...

Just now found out my 2nd grandbaby was born - here - in Rapid - on my wife's birthday!!!

Gotta go!! (-:

Makes you wonder how some of these box stores manage to survive.

Congrats on the new baby :great:
Our Cabela's gun counter is a pretty good group of people, all gun guys (and gals) and pretty knowledgeable.
Sorry you drew a dipstick.

I've run into similar problems. Once in Madison, Wisconsin the idiots at Dunham's couldn't figure out how to legally sell me a rifle even after they phoned their (so-called) attorney. The mental gyrations the assistant manager went through were epic while he kept contradicting himself and his store's policy.

In Prescott (gun city USA, right?), AZ Yavapai pawn said it was impossible for them to keep track of which states they could sell long guns to. This was in a city where every gun dealer ( over 30 of them at one time) had no problem doing it.

I've long ago given up expecting even a minimum of intelligence from people.

And Congratulations on the new grandchild!

Thanks Guys!!

I knew the grand baby was going to be born soon - but I was pretty surprised!!
My daughter and SIL we at the hospital in Rapid City since early Friday morning.
The baby was born 9:00am Saturday morning - They told us early Saturday afternoon.

So when we got there - it was a done deal - Here's the baby!! No waiting!!

I'm still trying to decide if that was a cool thing or not... :thinkin:

That Cabelas thing - That REALLY was an insulting and degrading experience.
The idiot that said "I understand" every time I tried to explain how it works...
At some point there - he decided I was doing something illegal and obviously thought I was some kind of "Flight Risk"...

Seriously thought I was going to run out of the store and leave the shotgun behind - along with all my contact information.

I'm basically speechless here - Seriously treated me like I was a criminal - While I'm trying to give them some business...

After thinking about it a bit - If I was a criminal trying to pull something on Cabelas here - what was I supposed to gain?

I mean this guy was an unbelievably uniformed idiot. I REALLY wanted to rip this moron to shreds - but I also wanted my customer to get his shotgun.

I think I bit my tongue till it bled...

Anyway - There is the "who gives a shit - I educated this moron" part of me that says "It's over and done with. Move On."

Then there's the whiny liberal part of me that wants to contact Cabelas and raise hell about having "uniformed idiots" behind the gun counter...

The Cabela's here just has a bunch of rude folks. They stand there and watch ya till ya leave. No offer for help or anything.

This isn't just the gun counter, It's the entire store.

I better stop now or I'll really get going. It's like a grocery store to me, get in and out.

A thread got started on FB about transfer fee's - several places have raised a transfer fee to $35 and not many folks like it.

Anyway, A fella mentioned there are a bunch of bone-heads behind the gun counter at Cabela's.

So here was my chance to tell everybody what happened to me. :great:

I hope that little "I Understand!!" prick get fired.

And I really don't give a shit if Everybody at Cabela's knows who I am.
I might even print that FB thread out and then stop in at Cabel's this weekend (if we go) - and show Mr. "I Understand!!" what an internet star he is...

In the Cabela's here, they are polite and helpful.
Maybe because it's the main store and a lot of bigwigs work next door?
It's not unusual to see the CEO hanging around watching

Or, maybe ask him if he knows how a transfer works.... ;)
