Another story I heard was concerning taking out an engine on a car. Now this is one I never put to the test, not for lack of an engine block, but due to a lack of assorted weapons to try.

But these guys went all Mythbusters on it, and put it to the test. Made for an interesting read:

One of the more interesting pistol courses I ever went through was also one of the most physical (I later stole elements of it when I trained my MPs). You basically run a small obstacle course (In theory, you're chasing a perp). You run as fast as you can for a 100 meters, go over a fence, another twenty meters, over another, and then dodge some trash cans lying haphazardly in your way, to go over a final fence and be confronted with a shoot/no shoot situation (three targets, only one of which has a gun). Not only are you having to ID the threat in a hurry, but you're also having to get your sight picture and engage your target when all your body wants to do is suck in air.

Another thing they taught us was reloading under fire. It's easier with a semi-auto, not so easy with a revolver, especially when you've expended your speed loaders or strips and you have rounds coming from a dump box or belt loops. You might get two rounds, have to reload, all the while they're telling you the target is approaching to kill you. You need to know which direction your cylinder rotates, and have the presence of mind that both rounds come up into firing position first. Falling on an empty chamber means you're dead.

One of the more interesting things they drilled into us, was something that was so obvious, you wouldn't think about it. It seemed there was police officer that was shot and killed and while investigating it, they found him with a number of of spent cartridges in his pocket. It turns out that at the range, they would fire, eject their casings and so on, and before moving on to the next position, they'd clean up their brace. This had become ingrained in him, and guess what he was doing. They taught us to leave casings, magazines, and etc since they slowed us down and exposed us tactically.

Big yep on this one!!! If you are having to return fire, forget the empty mags and brass. Take out the threat and THEN worry about the little things.

If the mentally deficient are not allowed to own guns then why should they be allowed to make gun laws?

This thread has been dead for a while so I thought I'd revive it!

Here is a big list of pistol training drills!!! If you try one or more, please report back and let us know what you think about them and how well you did!

I've done similar drills. Practice with a push off the attacker while firing and before firing.
