Assailant's Carhartt jacket stopped 4 Speer Gold Dots fired by NYPD.

That's pretty disappointing for a premium round! They should use Zero brand bullets! ;)

honestly it is probably the caliber.

The NG I had with that Glock .357 sig was with Speer Gold Dot hollow point and it went through my hand and a wall and didn't expand until it went into the 1/16th inch mild steel of the hot water tank. The water then stopped it inside the tank.

I would be willing to bet my life that that sig round would have went through that jacket like it wasn't there.

The .357 Sig is a great round for sure
I wish it wasn't so expensive though.

Did I read that correctly? The ammo failed to perform as advertised so they're going to check the gun for malfunctions? What's next....the squad car got stuck in the snow so they're going to check the rims? A couple of winters ago a buddy brought over his goofy S&W 500. We shot hollow points at a heavy cardboard box. The holes entering the box were huge. I'm know expert but it appeared the rounds were expanding before they reached the target. Maybe that's what happened or perhaps Cornhusker is correct about the pricey Carhart stuff.

I wore strictly Carrhart jackets for 23 years working in construction, I had to replace the jacket ONE time in 23 years....The canvass they use in the ones designed to work in as opposed to the designer series they have, are tougher than nails...literally. It would not surprise me that a new one would stop anything up to and including any .357 round depending a little on the distance it is fired from. Between the canvass, the insulation, and the lining (in some jacket/coat styles anyway) I would say a bullet would have a tough row to hoe to penetrate completely, especially a hollow point. The arctic jacket is thick and heavy. The active-jac is tough, light, and still has at least three layers.

The sig round really isn't that expensive and besides you get what you pay for. ;)

I was really curious about hollow points expanding before they hit the target due to centrifugal force, so I did some research. The short answer is not out of a handgun. Hot loads coming out of a rifle for demonstration purposes showed bullets coming apart. The engineering guys doing the test talked about negative pressure inside the hollow point preventing it from coming apart under normal circumstances. It made sense when I read it but I'm not sure if my regurgitation of the information does it justice. Please excuse me while I go buy a new Carhart jacket.

Just get the original type hard canvass ones, the ;designer' series is all pre-worn out for you and is too soft. It's hard to move in a good hard canvass jacket or coat though the material is so stiff.
