I watched a video of a guy stripping and cleaning a Canik. He says to avoid oiling the firing pin/striker. He went out of his way to face the assembly so that gravity couldn't migrate oil up the pin and repeated the importance of keeping it free of oil. I've always intentionally placed a tiny drip of oil in this location. Have I been doing it wrong?

2 dissimilar metals don't usually need lube and will wear slowly.
If they're the same kind of metal - lube it!!

I'm sure there's other considerations...

The only reason I can think of for NOT using oil is it attracts dirt.
And that along with heat might gum up the works.

But - if you use a good lube, it should be fine in my humble "don't even know what a Canik is" opinion.

I just had a guy pick up a "PTR 91" yesterday...
1st time I seen one of those!!

He doesn't give a reason? I don't think a light lube will hurt anything.

I agree, a light lubing will not harm anything... to each their own.

There are various dry lube sprays available for those who think it will attract too much dirt or carbon. Myself, I've always used at least a light coat of oil on parts, but then wipe most of it off unless it's on what I call a bearing surface, one that contacts another in motion.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, I typed "SHOULD I USE LUBE" into The Google.
There were 1.33 million results and I haven't found anything referring to firearms, yet! :dunno:

ALL (that I know of) firearm makers recommend NOT getting anything in the firing pin hole/groove/channel.
The most common problem is that it collects crud and stops working.

Since the firing pin is small and light and has virtually no side torque, lubrication is not really needed.
I have never put any sort of lube there on my weapons and don't have any wear from it. I'd say don't
earl the firin' pin.

Ex...I'm sold. Makes sense to me. Oil mixed with carbon on the pin will get dragged in over time. I come here for the humor and manage to learn something every time. Husker..unless the topic title has the word Astroglide in it, the thread is safe to open. (Not that there's anything wrong with that). :roflol:

Not to be crude (maybe lol), if it's for the Kardashians, it'll have the connotation "Butt juice" somewhere...
