So I have this S&W 66-5 that has always had a sloppy thumb release that has been digging into the frame. It's been like this since the day I bought it. I replaced the thumb piece a few years back, thinking that would solve it. But it made no difference what so ever. So a few days ago I saw a screw on midway and ordered it, thought what the heck, it's worth a try. I got it today and when I put it in, I was absolutely amazed. It's as solid as a rock now, no more slop at all and it doesn't make contact with the frame at all.

How in the world could this little screw have been the problem all along? It wasn't stripped, and it doesn't look any different the the new one?

Tolly, did you ever get this resolved? There are also shim kits I've seen though Brownells and such to resolve these issues.

"Might have to try that on my Taurus."
