Well, this isn't as good as amp's story but it's kinda funny anyway.
I was probably 8 or 9 years old and my mom belonged to a group called Parents Without Partners. The had a lot of family activities for single parents and their kids. One of the activities we went on was a "camping" trip (there were two families to a cabin). My name is Scott and my sister's is Shelly and she's two years younger than I am. We had gone down to the camp fire to roast marshmallows and make S'mores with the other family in our cabin, More on the other family in a minute. On the way back to our cabin, everyone was barefoot, my mom stepped on a salamander (a slimy lizard kind of thing) and let out a scream like nothing I heard from her before. People gathered around and the dad from the other family came to mom's rescue and found the now dead salamander. Mom calmed down and we continued to the cabin and got better acquainted with the family we shared a cabin with.

After us kids had gone to bed mom had to go to the bathroom and when she steeped out of the cabin... you guessed it, she stepped on another salamander and the hilarity began again.

Now about the family, I'm sure this was coincidence. Remember my name is Scott and my younger sister is Shelly, the other two kids were also named Scott and Shelly but the ages were reversed. I don't remember the dad's name anymore but this is one of the outings that stands out in my mind.

I miss my mom a great deal, my dad was out of the picture when I was six and mom raised us alone. Mom was awesome, she taught me what it meant to be a good man. Mom taught me all the stuff a dad would teach a son and if it was something she didn't know about she learned to teach me.

Another one, OK, here goes. This one is short though.
A couple years after my brother was born, Oops, mom took all three of us kids to visit my uncle (another very significant person to me) in California I was 15 so this was 1979. We drove down through the southern states and we were going through New Mexico late at night and got pulled over by the State Patrol. Kinda funny, moms hair started turning gray shortly after my sister was born so she dyed it black as long as I can remember. The patrolman looked at mom and asks Ya'll from the United States?" then looks in the back seat where my sister and I sat with our golden blonde hair. The officer explained that there had been a lot of folks coming up from Mexico and we had Minnesota plates and the car looked suspicious (1969 Ford LTD) and that he was sorry for the inconvenience. Mom didn't even have to show him her license.

I have many more since I have been thinking about mom quite a bit lately and we did have some good times for poor folks.
