Back in the very early 1970's, definitely either 1970 or 71, my sister, her friend Maxine and I all took a bus to New Port beach. We lived in the City of Orange, Orange Co., Ca., so taking the bus was a relatively short ride from where we lived. My sister and her friend were 18 or 19 yrs. old, so I was the little brother tagging along.

Anyway, we had spent most of the day enjoying the beach when we realized we needed to get walking toward the bus stop. or we would end up missing the last bus. So here we are walking shoulder to shoulder through down town New Port Beach. It's still very light out, broad day light actually, and my sister is carrying on a conversation with Maxine, when both my sister and I realize Maxine isn't saying anything at all. We turn our heads only to see Maxine being dragged down the side walk by some man, a fairly well dressed man actually. He had one hand over her mouth, and the other arm was around her neck and was dragging her backwards toward a near by alley.

Both my sister and I broke into a full run to help Maxine, but by the time we caught up to her, the guy had made it to the alley and was stuffing her into a yellow VW bug. When we got there, I immediately screamed at my sister, "give me your gun", she always carried a firearm in her purse. As soon as this guy heard me yell this, he pulled Maxine out of the VW and threw her onto the pavement, jumped in his bug and drove off. The license plate was missing, and he was trying to conceal his face from us. But my sister and I both couldn't help but get an up close and personal look at him when we were several feet from him.

Maxine was barely conscious, due to him cutting off her air supply while dragging her. But she recovered within few minutes and we walked back toward the bus stop.

I think this story is a good example of how gun laws can prevent victims from reporting deadly incidents, thus resulting in pure evil to prevail, all because the victim fears facing legal retribution. It was for this reason alone, that neither my sister or Maxine contacted the police. And me being only 14 or 15 years old at the time, I tried to reason with my sister to allow me to take responsibility for the gun, but neither of them would allow me to involve the police.

At the time, no one even knew Bundy existed I don't think. But several years later Ted Bundy's face was plastered on the front page of every news paper in the country, and on the nightly news. To this day, I honestly believe this was him. Maybe not, but I feel strongly it was him.

If the mentally deficient are not allowed to own guns then why should they be allowed to make gun laws?

My sister and I were inseparable back in those days and always at the beach. We had so much fun, but we also had another hair raising experience that I'll be sharing soon, and it happened during the same summer of our supposed Bundy encounter. So sit tight, that story is coming, maybe today.
