I do not like the factory bolt handle for my 4595. I got a little lathe time and came up with this, The few that I have seen for sale looked like the were the same length as the factory handle.

Image

I think it looks good on the firearm.

Image

Image

It is 1.125" long about a quarter inch longer than the factory and .875 in diameter at its widest. You can see the bolt hold open works and I have big fingers.

Hope you like it.

David

Looks good David! Post again when you have field report. What is the weight compared to stock?

Very nice looking. Is this something you might offer for sale if it passes test firing?

I will look into how much material is and give everyone an update. The weight is within a half of a gram of the factory part. I will run a mag through it this evenng and see how it works, I can not see having any problems. I have one more idea and have some materials on the way. Maybe it will turn out.

The weight of the bolt is a major player in the dynamics of a blowback type action. Any addition or subtractions to the weight ratios may influence it's functionality. Of course I'm speaking generically, as that's common knowledge. :hmmm:

The carbine functions fine. I do not see 1 gram on a 2 something pound slide being a problem long term. I just got the material in I ordered, Have the Idea on paper using cad. Just need time to see if it will work. I have heard the Hi Point used different size bolt screws in the past. Anyone know what size bolt is in their carbine. Mine has a .300 bolt knob bolt. I will post some pics as soon as I can.

The aluminum bolt knob looks good but was a bit too flashy for me, So I ordered some black delrin and some chrome moly tubing and this is my idea.(this one is rough, I just have an old manual lathe where I work to do this on break.)

Image

The stock bolt knob is on the bottom, then the aluminum one I made a few weeks ago and the hybrid delrin-chrome moly on the top.

Looks good on the gun. Need to get to a CNC to get that nice pretty radius going like is on the aluminum one. I did a pull test on the press fit of the tubing in the delrin and you can move it with a hammer and a punch, but you can not pull it apart, Ended up with a 3% friction fit. Will see if I can borrow a real lathe in the next few days to get a couple and see what they look like.

Would it be handy to flare the end of the tube over on the outer end and let the delrin spin? Or would that compromise the grip on the knob?

BTW- you can anodize the aluminum at home easy enough I think and make it black.

It has been a while but I think I have some thing.

I need some outside opinions on what y'all think. I would be willing to send a couple of these out if you will pm me an address and give your review here.

The aluminum parts I have are just like the original one I made, and the Delrin parts are pretty close to the same size just with the grooves.

Thanks David

Powder coat or cerakote are also options on the aluminum one.

I missed the shipment to the anodizer by a couple of weeks( a friend of mine was sending some things off). If you get a bunch done or a few parts like I have it is about the same price. Was wanting to get a feel for what is wanted and there are several aluminum on the market already. Cerakote would be a pain, I have been around it, it is a great product but it is a hard to do right.
