Here are a couple of shots of my C9 that I have been continually "upgrading" for about a year and a half. It's mostly all been cosmetic and has been quite a learning experience.

GREAT post ynot!!!
And very good results too!
Did the same polish job on my slide. Love the grips!
The swirl finish on the barrel and chamber look great!

Have you done anything with the trigger pull yet?
How does it feel? We have an article or two here
on improving the HP trigger that work wonders!

I have worked on the trigger and am still working with it. This particular pistol had the worst out of the box trigger ever. I did the standard polish on all the contact points of the linkage with only marginal results. After much studying I noticed that the notches in the frame that the sear cross pin rides in were not in line. This was causing the lever to pull the sear in a twisting motion as it pulled it down. After some work with a small file and a liberal coating of oil the trigger is much smoother but still had a fairly heavy pull.

Here are a few pictures of some of the parts in process. The grips were made from construction paper laminated together with fibreglass resin. The barrel was removed from the frame for the jewelling process and an 11 degree crown was cut. The trigger was rounded for comfort and the pivot hole received a bushing to help with some of the side to side wiggle. The bushing looked kind of cool so I bushed the other three holes just for looks. The magazines were jewelled just for looks but as an added bonus they now drop free much better. I didn't take pictures but the frame was smoothed of all the molding lines and dimples and then duracoated flat black to get rid of the cheap plastic look. Enjoy the pics.

Geez ynot - The pistol looks great!!

I would have never thought about resin and construction paper to make grips like that.
I'm sure you had to drill, sand and/or grind those baby's to get them to fit and look that good.
I'm curious how you ended up with them looking so smooth... A final thin coat of resin - Or a bunch of polishing? Both? Maybe I'm guessing all wrong?? :dunno:

It does look really good!! Unique, Custom and one-of-a-kind!!

And doing most of the work yourself - I'm really super-impressed!! :great:

Thanks for the compliments.
The grips were quite a project. I learned about the laminating together of paper, cloth, or anything that will soak up the resin from building knife handles and simply applied it on a larger scale. I really wanted to use laminated wood but it would have cost as much as the gun.
The smooth finish on the grips was achieved by sanding them smooth with standard woodworking methods and then finishing them with multiple coats of urethane sanded smooth between each coat. I didn't count but there are at least 8 coats on them.
The 11 degree crown was cut with a Brownells crowning tool.

I gotta say you might rank right up there with other people that have MAD skills! :great:

Just a suggestion, maybe you might be the one to perfect the 16 shot magazine for these things and actually make it look good. :thinkin:

I don't know about mad skills, more like crazy ideas, power tools, and a bad case of OCD.
I hadn't yet considered doing any R&D on a hi cap mag but now that you mention it......maybe a Pro-Mag project might just be the finishing touch for this polished turd.

I'd go with factory mags... I believe they are cheaper and for most, they work better...
